We recently had the chance to connect with Alexandria Angel and have shared our conversation below.
Alexandria, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Energy, without a doubt. It’s our most valuable and non-renewable currency. We’re all born with a unique energetic signature, but learning how to protect, refine, and direct it takes time and accountability. The phrase “your vibe attracts your tribe” really resonates with me — when you vibrate at the frequency of what you want to attract, you naturally align with like-minded souls.
At Ms Painted Lady, energy is everything. It guides how we select our brides and how we build our team. When the energy aligns, integrity, intelligence, and purpose naturally follow.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
For nearly two decades, Alexandria Angel, founder and CEO of Ms Painted Lady, has been redefining what it means to create timeless South Asian bridal beauty. What began 18 years ago as a one-woman artistry brand—where Alexandria personally crafted thousands of signature bridal looks around the globe—has evolved into a multifaceted beauty empire.
Phase 1 of Ms Painted Lady established Alexandria as a global force in South Asian bridal artistry. Phase 2, MPL Makeup & Hair, was born out of growing demand and has expanded into a powerhouse team of seven certified artists, each trained under the Ms Painted Lady brand standard. Together, they offer luxury makeup, hair, jewelry, and dupatta setting services—along with personalized wardrobe styling, custom mood boards, and tailored skincare plans to ensure every bride looks and feels her most radiant.
In Phase 3, Alexandria brought her expertise into the education space, offering professional MUAs one-on-one mentorship and group workshops to master both artistry and business. Now entering Phase 4, Ms Painted Lady is expanding beyond beauty into leadership and brand development. Alexandria is currently developing an in-person program for entrepreneurs that teaches them how to lead with clarity, extract their brand values, build strong business pillars, attract and retain dream clients, navigate cancel culture with grace, and create a lasting legacy through authentic community building.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I actually grew up feeling quite insecure. I had what I now recognize as false confidence—it was rooted in aesthetics and external validation, not in real self-worth. For a long time, I didn’t feel valuable as a human being.
When I began working with brides, the first few years were a deep learning curve. I was figuring out the culture, learning how to navigate beauty traumas, and understanding how to help women translate those experiences into healing and empowerment.
The most powerful moments of my life and career have really emerged in the past few years. That’s when I realized I could have a holistic impact on women that goes beyond the surface. I began giving brides affirmation homework, helping them reshape their narratives around beauty standards and community expectations. Watching each woman reconnect with her confidence, allowing space for her creativity to flow, and seeing her feel empowered to author her own story has been the most rewarding and powerful part of my journey.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me what success never could—that everything is happening for me, not to me. That every challenge is on the way, not in the way. It taught me that discipline and endurance are far more valuable than ease when it comes to breaking through growth curves.
I also learned that suffering, in many ways, is optional. About seven years ago, I experienced a major mindset shift and chose to become a solution-based person. Now, for every concern or challenge a bride brings to me, I can see several solutions. That energy alone has magnetized the kind of clients who value collaboration, gratitude, and growth.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
I think a lot of smart people are getting it wrong by over-intellectualizing everything and under-feeling it. We’ve built a culture that rewards logic, data, and performance—but often at the expense of intuition, empathy, and energy.
In leadership, business, and even beauty, intelligence without emotional intelligence is incomplete. People forget that connection and resonance can’t be calculated; they have to be felt.
The smartest thing anyone can do today is slow down, listen to their energy, and let intuition be part of their strategy. Because data can tell you what worked before—but energy will always tell you what’s possible next.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I made them feel something—that I helped them see themselves more clearly, love themselves more deeply, and believe in their own magic. I want to be remembered as someone who didn’t just enhance outer beauty, but helped women rewrite their inner stories.
Beyond makeup or artistry, my work has always been about impact—about helping others see that confidence, grace, and power can coexist. When I’m gone, I hope people say that I built something that outlived trends, that I led with heart, and that I left every room, every bride, and every soul a little more radiant than I found them.
