We recently had the chance to connect with Alicea Davis and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Alicea, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day looks like rehearsing keynotes for churches and corporations. I am back on the saddle after sickness and I am ready to CHANGE the atmosphere of tension in racial conversations with poetry and art preparations. God is good, it’s as if I’ve never been sick. I have been writing Christian songs and scouting artist to sing them. I have been doing plenty of interviews and spending time with my family. Reconciliation with my mother and step-father ROCKS because I talk to my mom almost every day! That is why I am so passionate about racial reconciliation; because human to human connections happens when we work at them!!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
A Truth — Hi, I am MEe. I mostly go by my legal name Alicea Joy Davis since I came back to The Lord. MEe is a dynamic poet and I am a little timid to let her out on the stage. Jesus is working on me with that because she is POWERFUL. So powerful even, I FEAR HER. But I DON”T LET that stop MEe from coming out. I’ve never turned down an appearance because of fear, so it doesn’t get in the way of ANYTHING!!
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My grandfather taught me most about work when he and my grandmother raised me and my siblings early in life. He introduced us to Jesus in his church. I watched him work a normal job and live his dream as a minister to our friends. I learned that I can do all things through Christ! This is the strongest work ethic one can have. Believing He is with people in everything they do. He created us, and He knows what is for us.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
During COVID. I had a mild cancer, COVID and a breakdown ALL AT THE SAME TIME, but I kept going…slowly. God is awesome!!!
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They would say my husband and my poetry matters more than anything in the world! But you can add my ministry and my father. Two years ago we were estranged and I couldn’t bear it…That’s how I found out how much my father means to be. (By the way, it wasn’t my fault. I didn’t land in the hospital. Just very heartbroken.) Now we renewed our friendship and have lunch on a regular basis. Isn’t it cool that my father is now my friend in adulthood. Praise Jesus! Praise the Lord!!!
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
Eating Fast Food. Ha ha! No seriously, that’s about it. I invest in prayer, actions, and words daily. Just my health kick is what I need to jump on quick and in a hurry!!
