We’re looking forward to introducing you to Amy Stone. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Amy, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
For as long as I can remember, my parents have impressed upon me that integrity is the most essential attribute of being human.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an Abstract Painter and Mixed Media Artist living and working in Seattle. Most of my work focuses on abstract expressionism and the abstracted female form. I am also a mom of two boys, almost 10 and 13 and find endless inspiration from their antics, my husbands, and our dogs.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I don’t think it’s possible for anyone else to see you clearly before you can see yourself.
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
My parents divorced when I was seven and my cousin died in a tragic accident at fifteen. I was twelve. Creating art and pushing paint around was a way for me to move through these difficult times and even help me deal with them as I got older.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
One hundred percent. What you see is what you get. I have no filter, and am very vulnerable. I am not afraid to speak my mind or stand up for what I believe in.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
I think one thing I will regret not doing is teaching. It’s something I have had on my mind for years. I don’t love speaking in public, and often think I don’t know enough to actually teach. The truth is, I don’t think any of us really know what we are doing, so one day soon I will probably face my fears and teach a painting class.
