We’re looking forward to introducing you to Angela Zancanaro. Check out our conversation below.
Angela, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
As a self made entrepreneur, I joke that my boss is an absolute tyrant! Always making me work weekends, take on last-minute ideas, and juggle way too many tasks at once.
I bring a nonstop creative engine, a get-it-done attitude, and a willingness to wear every hat when needed. I’m constantly generating new ideas while managing the daily tasks like responding to emails that keeps things moving forward. That said, I know I thrive best in environments that allow for flexibility, and innovation. In a traditional, task-management system, I might not be the perfect fit. But if you want someone who takes initiative, adapts quickly, and brings passion to everything they do, I’m your person.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Angela, I’m one-woman show, the founder and artist behind Salinity Swimwear. Which is a small, ocean-inspired brand born from my love for the ocean and scuba diving. As a scuba instructor and eco-tour guide, I spend a lot of time on boats unter the intense sun of Baja California Sur. I couldn’t find gear that provided good sun protection and truly reflected the magic of the marine world I love so much, so I started designing my own. Each piece features original artwork inspired by real encounters with marine life, like whale sharks, manta rays, dolphins, and orcas. I have designed over 25 different marine prints that are on all our leggings, rash guards, bikinis, swim trunks, buffs, windbreakers, and more. Each piece is designed for active, on-the-go adventures, with UPF 50+ sun protection, eco-friendly materials, and a made-to-order model that helps reduce overproduction and waste. We ship worldwide, have great size inclusion, and a portion of every sale supports marine conservation efforts.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My mom was an entrepreneur through and through. At different times, she ran an herb shop, made soap that helped relieve poison oak, and even worked as a massage therapist. Growing up, I got to see firsthand what it looked like to carve out an unconventional path through hard work and dedication. She always told me I could do anything I set my mind to and watching her live that out made me believe I could do it too.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You don’t have to have everything figured out right away. When I was younger, I had no idea what I was passionate about, I tried all kinds of creative classes, screen printing, pottery, painting, photography, architecture and making jewelry which I thought that would be my forever career. I ran a jewelry business for ten years before reinventing myself all over again. Every step, even the uncertain ones, helped shape where I am now. I’d tell my younger self to keep experimenting, follow the path of least resistance, and never be afraid to start over or fail. That’s where the magic happens.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
I absolutely believe in angels and a higher power. I believe in manifestation, and that our thoughts shape the world around us. The little voice inside your head matters and it becomes your reality. I’ve done a lot of inner work over the years to quiet that negative voice, the one that says “you can’t do it” or “you’ll never succeed.” Replacing it with belief, trust, and encouragement has changed everything and I’ve seen first hand it work like magic.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m in the water. It’s what drives my passion and keeps me motivated, I’m always looking forward to the next day off, hoping it means a swim with the fish or a scuba dive in some tropical destination. There’s nothing like the sound of your own breath underwater, mixed with the crackle of a healthy coral reef. Or those rare unforgettable moments like locking eyes with a giant oceanic manta ray and feeling that a bigger connection. That’s when I feel most alive, and completely at peace.
