We recently had the chance to connect with Anthony Allen and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes I would hire me. I get things done, I keep people moving in the right direction, and I do it without needing a medal for showing up. The only risk is you might hear me complain about bad coffee, but if that is the biggest problem I bring, I think you are getting a pretty good deal.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Anthony Allen, the founder of Supply Chain Talent Advisors. Before becoming a recruiter, I spent more than twenty years leading supply chain, operations, and procurement in manufacturing and consumer goods. That experience shapes the way I recruit today. I focus on helping companies solve real supply chain challenges by connecting them with leaders who can deliver results.
What makes my firm unique is transparency and straight talk. I specialize in VP, COO, and executive-level supply chain and operations roles, often in food and beverage and consumer packaged goods. Because I have lived the challenges myself, I can speak the same language as both clients and candidates.
Right now I am especially focused on helping smaller, high growth companies that need leadership but may not know how to structure their supply chain teams. I also teach supply chain courses at Southern New Hampshire University and speak at industry events like ASCM, which keeps me connected to the issues companies are facing.
At the end of the day, my story is about solving problems through people. Strong supply chain leadership can transform a business, and I enjoy playing a role in making that happen.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has shaped me the most is with my wife. She has been steady through every career change and every risk I have taken, and she has kept me grounded when I get too wrapped up in work. Her perspective reminds me that success is not just about closing a search or landing a new client but about being present for my family and living with integrity. That balance is what keeps me sharp as a recruiter and a leader.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has held me back the most is the fear of failure. For a long time I played it safe in my career because I worried about what would happen if I stepped out on my own. Eventually I realized that staying comfortable was a bigger risk than taking the leap. Starting my own recruiting firm forced me to face that fear head-on. It is still there at times, but now I use it as fuel to push forward rather than a reason to hold back.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
An important truth that very few people agree with me on is that most companies do not actually have a hiring problem, they have a leadership problem. Leaders often say they cannot find good people, but in reality the right people are out there. The issue is unclear expectations, poor processes, or cultures that drive good employees away. Fix the leadership side and the hiring side becomes much easier.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I had ten years left, I would stop spending time on things that do not matter. I would stop checking emails at midnight, stop saying yes to meetings that are not important, and stop worrying about what people think on social media. I would spend that time with my family, traveling, teaching, and working with companies and people I truly enjoy.
