We recently had the chance to connect with Author K Reshay and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Author , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
August 2, 2025, my nonprofit organization was nationally recognized for an essay award at The National Book Club Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
This was a proud moment as we’ve been established since 2011 and this is our second award ever.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m author K. Reshay. I’m a self published author, poet, and playwright. I’m also the president and founder of nonprofit organization Me Time Book Club.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment I stepped foot in Africa in 2019 changed my perspective on everything. The experience in West Africa was like non other. . I met some amazing people and learned a lot about myself as a black woman.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, in 2021 I almost gave up on my book club. There was a lot of drama and I didn’t want to continue with it or anything associated with it.
I continued because I had family and friends that encouraged me that despite it all, it was something I built and should continue.
It was with that encouragement that I rebuilt my organization and now we’re nonprofit, award winning, and on our fifth year of hosting our book festival.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That we support all authors. This industry is very click ish. Lots of book events are in invite only and by the time you hear about it, you’re already too late.
I’m glad I stand on my on two feet and not within a group. You can’t grow if you aren’t willing to include everyone.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I didn’t give up. That with every brick that was thrown, I made a castle. Resiliency is my legacy in this industry.
