We recently had the chance to connect with Belén Ruiz Cavazos and have shared our conversation below.
Belén, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day usually start with a cup of coffee. I drink water take my vitamins, feed my dog have breakfast, and do some stretching
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a ballet dancer, I am still currently a ballet student and I will graduate in 2026 in BA of classical dance. I will start my journey on auditioning for ballet companies this year. What makes it interesting is that I just came back from a hip surgery that took me off dance for a year and a half. But came back a lot faster than expected.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that has shaped me into seeing the world differently has definitely been my hip surgery. During my recovery time I wasn’t able to move or walk, so firstly I realize about how lucky we are everyday to have a full functioning body, everyday we can run, go upstairs and more. So now I don’t take my health for granted. Secondly, during ballet class I enjoy every second of it, I am not saying that it isn’t tiring, but I enjoy being able to be tired. I am so conscious of my body now, I really feel every moment and enjoy it.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, throughout this whole recovery process it came to my mind to give up at least once a day. Not because I didn’t love it anymore but because it was the “easy” way out. Or I was very worried that people would compare me to my old self.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I used to believe that thing could only go one way, like a straight path. Which is definitively wrong. Anyones life or career will never be straight or just black and white. To get to where you want to in life, you must face a rocky road, ups and downs and some setbacks. But they will definetly make you stronger and wiser, so next time you have a little setback you’ll recover faster.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I would’ve loved to reach my goals. And if I do I will like to be the reminder that everything is possible, an everything happens for a reason, even though sometimes it take a while to understand why, or maybe you never will. But if you are strong and set your mind nothing will stop you.
