Story & Lesson Highlights with Ben Rose

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Ben Rose. Check out our conversation below.

Ben, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
It depends on the day.

Most days I rise well before the sun and take my medications. I write for several hours. Then I shower and shave. I have breakfast and make a recovery meeting. I work or attend medical appointments. I try to write on the way to and from. I have a light lunch. I do whatever is on my schedule. Some days I volunteer at a food pantry. I write more. I have dinner. I write more. I try to sleep a bit.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a middle-aged, best-selling author of young adult novels who resides on The Florida Gulf with my beautiful better-half and a cat. When I’m not writing, or researching, I attend recovery meetings, and work to improve life for those less fortunate. Having traveled a great deal in my younger years, I weave together stories I’ve heard, and lives I’ve touched, into novels that play jump rope with the fine line between fiction and facts.
I am traditionally published by Oracle Bookart Publishing. At the moment I am working on a movie script (no idea where to market this) and three novels. I have 6 more novels on the back burner.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My early relationships definitely shaped how I see myself. That the lion’s share of these relationships were beyond dysfunctional not only shaped how I see myself, they also shaped what would become my published novels.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
When I began writing I commenced transforming the existential pain of my life into a raw, unfettered energy. I also helped certain people do this by telling their stories (slightly fictionalized) to readers.
My latest novel, Found Family, cuts as close to the bone as I have thus far come to relating my own experiences.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
The more money you have, the greater will be your success and worth in the world. That’s why I’ve never been terribly popular or part of any A-lists that might exist. I lack the monetary resources to be somebody.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
That I never was somebody. I wanted to change the world and make it better for the future generations, but I lacked to grants, funding, and resources to become popular; thereby having the influence to affect change.
