Story & Lesson Highlights with Bob Pryor of Spring, Texas

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Bob Pryor. Check out our conversation below.

Bob, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: When have you felt most loved—and did you believe you deserved it?
As a performing songwriter, I write and perform songs on a regular basis. I often perform at church services. When someone tells me that the words I wrote had a profound, positive impact on them, to me that is an expression of love. My songs all contain a message, and it makes me feel like I’ve done something to help the human race. As a performer, you may have an effect on people with your material, but not everyone will tell you. You have to have faith that you are doing some good in the world. When a person actually comes to you, it is a special treat that I thoroughly enjoy. As far as deserving the love, I believe I do, as I am the one who, through my song, has delivered a message that may impact a person’s life. I believe that is why I’m here.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Bob Pryor. I am blessed to be able to do a number of things well. I am a performing songwriter who has written over 200 songs, an author, and a management/leadership consultant. I have been playing guitar and singing since I was around 12 years old. For a number of years, in addition to being in a successful band, I also held executive positions in several companies. I love to teach, and at one time, I had my own company that taught students various subjects related to exporting goods from the United States, along with basic management and leadership techniques.

Presently, even though I have some mobility challenges, I perform regularly at churches, senior centers, hospitals, and private events. I am also a public speaker and deliver sermons at churches. Additionally, I am conducting Songwriting and Leadership seminars at our local library, so I am quite active. My music is available on most social media platforms for people to hear. On Facebook, I have a public page called “Bob Pryor’s Music and Concerts.” I am also on Instagram (@tallmusicman), TikTok, and X. I also have my own website. The URL is www.themusicofbobpryor.com.

To me, music is my spirituality; it’s what I was meant to do.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
This is an interesting question, but actually very simple. What breaks the bonds between people is being dishonest, which results in an often irreparable loss of trust. What restores them is honesty, speaking the truth, and showing love and respect for the other person.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I express myself through music. Everyone goes through periods in their lives where they experience pain, disappointment, rejection, extreme joy, and more. I am no exception. Being a prolific writer, all my songs, many of my essays, and my talks come from experiences in my life, some good, some not good. Not only do my writing abilities provide me a way to release some of the stress that comes with these emotions, but many people relate to the words, and they may help them. That, to me, is power: using your own experiences to help others.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Most definitely! I am a “what you see is what you get person.” I have found in my life it works for me. I provide a level of consistency that people enjoy because they do not get unpleasant surprises from me. The y know the type of person I am, and can always expect. In fact, I wish more people would act like this!

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That my music and writing helped other people in a positive way. That I was a direct and honest person and everyone always knew where they stood with me. That is all I could ever ask…
