Story & Lesson Highlights with Brittany Purcell of Easley

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Brittany Purcell. Check out our conversation below.

Brittany, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Why Choose Me – Brittany at Rustic Carolina Creations:
Every piece I create carries a story. I blend a wide range of mediums and inspirations to craft art that is as unique as the person it’s made for. No two creations are alike, because I believe your home, your space, and your story deserve more than something made by the thousands. I thrive on designing new and unexpected items. Letting my imagination lead the way while never compromising on quality. At the core of my work is a love for creativity and a deep care for the people who trust me to bring their vision to life.

Why Not Choose Me:
If you’re looking for quick, mass-produced products or the cheapest materials available, I may not be the right fit. My art takes time, intention, and the best resources I can find. If I know someone else who can bring your dream to life even better, I’ll happily guide you to them. Because creating meaningful work isn’t just about me, it’s about making sure you get exactly what you seeking.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Brittany—the mind and maker behind Rustic Carolina Creations (RCC).
I’m a self-taught woodworker who sees woodworking as both an art form and a way to keep challenging my mind. My journey into this craft didn’t start with tools and sawdust—it actually began with T-shirts. From there, I made stencils for wood painting, moved into freehand painting, and step by step, each stage of growth guided me to the woodworking style I practice today.

My Philosophy:
I believe in the natural beauty of wood letting the grain, knots, and colors speak for themselves. My role as an artist is to highlight what’s already there, giving new life to the natural world that inspires us all.

The RCC way is simple: care, quality, and (if I’m honest) maybe a little too much glue. That “signature” shows my meticulous attention to detail, my commitment to lasting craftsmanship, and a reminder that authenticity matters more than perfection. When you bring home one of my creations, you’re not just purchasing a product. You’re joining my story and yes, every order really does make me do a happy dance.

What makes Rustic Carolina Creations special isn’t just the wood or the glue. It’s the people. My customers often become friends, because I value connection as much as creativity. I want to cheer for your wins, support you in the hard times, and even encourage you when you’re ready to try your own creative projects. For me, RCC isn’t just a business it’s a way to share joy, tell stories through wood, and build community one piece at a time.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that worked fast, worked tired, and rushed through life. That’s no longer my motto. We never truly know what life has in store for us, and I’ve become determined to slow down and enjoy it more. By releasing that old habit, I make fewer mistakes that need fixing, and I give myself the freedom to let my creativity flow without restrictions.

I’ve also learned not to fear lessons, “failures,” or creating something that isn’t perfect. Each piece teaches me something valuable, and those moments of growth are just as important as the masterpieces. Most importantly, I now understand my worth and I know it isn’t defined by someone else’s opinion.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
My divorce was one of the hardest and most defining moments of my life. It wasn’t what I had planned for myself, but it became the turning point that reshaped everything. I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t allow someone else’s choices to ruin my future. I realized that while I can’t control what happens, I am fully responsible for how I respond.

That mindset changed everything. I chose to turn pain into fuel and pour my energy into building the life I wanted. Woodworking became both an outlet and a passion—a way to channel my heart, creativity, and determination into something tangible. What began as a way to heal has since grown into Rustic Carolina Creations, a business that reflects my strength, my growth, and my belief that beauty can come from even the most difficult chapters.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I believe that if you can be anything in this world, be kind, but also never be afraid to stand up for yourself. That balance of compassion and strength guides both my life and my work.

Creatively, I’m committed to only making pieces that truly inspire me. I’ve poured too much heart into my craft to create anything that feels ordinary or cookie-cutter. Every board, every design, and every project carries its own story, and I’m proud to say I’ve never made the same board twice. For me, this isn’t about mass production—it’s about authenticity, passion, and creating meaningful work that lasts.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m proud to say I’m doing what I was born to do. I’ve been fortunate to have parents, and friends who supported me in building a life and career that reflect who I truly am. Helping me embrace the life lessons and growing pains along the way.

I believe I was put here to share kindness, live with intention, and never settle for mediocrity. I want my work to remind others that it’s okay to pursue what truly fulfills you, even if it doesn’t fit the world’s expectations.

In my medical career, I have the opportunity to help people in meaningful, tangible ways making choices that put their well-being first. Even if that means “going out of the way” as some would say to ensure that my patients are being taken care of. My woodworking, however, allows me to express the creative side of that same purpose. Each piece I design challenges my mind and hands to grow. Whether I’m experimenting with new tools, exploring unfamiliar woods, or perfecting new techniques. It’s a craft that keeps me learning, connecting with others, and constantly striving to be better.

Beyond creating functional art, I hope to inspire others, especially women to pick up the tools, learn the craft, and trust their own creative instincts. Don’t be afraid to be bad at something new; I promise you, I’ve learned plenty of ways not to do things. Every mistake has taught me something valuable and pushed me toward becoming the maker I am today.
