Story & Lesson Highlights with Cherie Jones

We recently had the chance to connect with Cherie Jones and have shared our conversation below.

Cherie, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
What’s most misunderstood about Poise & Paper is the heart behind it. People often see the pretty stationery, the chic designs, the planners and stickers—but what they don’t always see is the mission that created it.

Poise & Paper was born during one of the most overwhelming seasons of my life as a mother. I wasn’t trying to start a business—I was trying to find myself again. I created tools to help me breathe, regroup, stay grounded, and remind myself that I mattered, too.

What I want women to understand is that Poise & Paper isn’t about perfection or having it all together. It’s about giving yourself permission to pause, to organize your thoughts, to dream again, and to feel inspired in the middle of real life.

My products are designed for women who are juggling it all and sometimes forget themselves in the process. They’re for mothers, creatives, and everyday women who need a moment of calm, confidence, or motivation—just like I did.

So yes, Poise & Paper is a stationery brand… but at its core, it’s a reminder that you deserve to feel supported, centered, and inspired while you’re carrying so much.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Cherie Jones, founder of Poise & Paper. I started this brand during an overwhelming season of motherhood—at a time when I felt like I was pouring into everyone except myself. I created my first products just to help me breathe, stay organized, and feel like “me” again.

What makes Poise & Paper unique is that it’s built from real-life experience, not a business plan. Every planner, notepad, sticker, and journal comes from a place of wanting women—especially moms—to feel supported, inspired, and reminded that they matter. My products are beautiful, but they also have heart. They speak to the woman who is juggling a lot and needs something that gives her a little boost, a little clarity, or a little confidence.

Right now, I’m focused on growing into wholesale so Poise & Paper can reach more women in the places they already shop. My goal is simple: to create tools that help women feel seen, stay grounded, and follow their dreams without forgetting themselves.

My mission is simple: to empower women with beautiful tools that support their lives, their dreams, and their daily moments of grace. And I’m just getting started.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
It will always be my mother!!!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to believe in myself, because there are truly no limits to what I can achieve.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Being a Black Woman

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I am committed to doing my best at all times. I was taught to always give my best, and I don’t require praise to stay motivated. Doing my best is part of who I am—it represents my values and my character. I am a stand‑up person, and the effort I put in speaks volumes about me.
