Story & Lesson Highlights with Davonte’ Walls & Shawn Victor Jr.

Davonte’ Walls & Shawn Victor Jr. shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Davonte’ & Shawn , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me right now is all about balance and focus. I’m currently a junior at Savannah State University majoring in Business Marketing, so my mornings usually start with classes and studying to stay on top of my coursework.  At school, I’m also an active member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., which keeps me involved in community and brotherhood activities.

I also model for Savage Inc., which gives me a creative outlet and connects me with other driven individuals in fashion. On top of that, I’m constantly working on building my brand, Privilege Closet, and learning what it takes to become a successful business mogul. Every day is busy, but it’s all part of the grind — balancing education, creativity, and entrepreneurship to create the future I envision for myself.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Davonte’ Walls, and I’m a 25-year-old creative from Savannah, Georgia. I’m the founder of **Privilege Closet**, a streetwear brand that blends quality craftsmanship with effortless casual style. What sets Privilege Closet apart is the balance between comfort and statement — each piece is designed to stand out while staying true to everyday wear.

You can check out my work on Instagram **@privilegeclosetllc**, where I showcase new drops, creative concepts, and collaborations. I’m currently working with another rising and influential brand called **One Seven**, founded by my fellow Phi Beta Sigma brother **Shawn Vactor Jr.**, whom I met at Georgia Southern University. His brand, which you can find on Instagram **@17.pieces**, shares the same passion for authenticity and culture that drives my work.

Together, we’re building more than just clothes — we’re creating a movement rooted in community, expression, and purpose. My goal is for Privilege Closet to continue pushing boundaries in streetwear while representing where I come from and the people who inspire me every day.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
The people who taught me the most about work are my parents. They both came from humble beginnings and worked hard to build successful careers for themselves. My mother now owns her own business, which has grown into a nurturing and caring space for children, while my father is a successful businessman and also owns lawn care company.

Being raised by go-getters and overcomers taught me the value of perseverance, dedication, and humility. Watching them chase their goals and turn challenges into opportunities has motivated me to do the same in my own journey. I carry their lessons with me every day, and I hope to be as successful — or even more — while staying grounded and grateful for the foundation they gave me.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me lessons that success never could. It showed me that even when days feel long and things come and go, I have the strength to endure. During those difficult times, I learned to lean on my faith, my family, and my friends for support. Suffering reminded me that pain is temporary and that better days always come if I stay patient and grounded.

Through it all, I discovered resilience within myself — the ability to rise after every setback and keep moving forward. Those experiences built my character and strengthened my mindset, teaching me that true growth often comes from struggle, not comfort. I’ve learned that no matter what challenges I face, I am strong enough to overcome them.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies my industry tells itself is that you have to fit into a box — that you need to follow trends or live up to a certain image to succeed. In reality, the opposite is true. Authenticity is what sets you apart. When you stay true to yourself, your vision, and your creative voice, people connect with that energy.

Too often, brands chase what’s popular instead of creating what’s real. I believe the power of individuality is what keeps the culture alive. Standing ten toes down on who you are and what you represent is what builds longevity, not trying to blend in with everyone else.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people remember me as a good man with strong character — someone who was both powerful and gentle, firm in his principles but always led with his heart. I want to be known as a man who built something meaningful, not just in business but in life, and who inspired others to chase their dreams and believe in the impossible.

Most importantly, I want people to say I was a God-fearing man with faith as small as a mustard seed but strong enough to move mountains. I hope my legacy reminds others that with faith, humility, and hard work, anything can be achieved.
