Story & Lesson Highlights with Den Kayo of Los Angeles

We recently had the chance to connect with Den Kayo and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Den, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I wake up and say one thing that I am grateful for. I walk my dog, then come home and meditate for 20 minutes. As I drive to work ,listening to meditational music, I keep repeating one thing that I want the most at the moment, as it already happened to me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Den Kayo, a music artist, DJ, and producer who is passionate about creating sounds that make people move and connect with emotion. Music has always been more than entertainment to me—it is a way to capture feelings and experiences and translate them into something that listeners can resonate with. A major influence on my artistry and brand is Japanese culture, which has long inspired me with its balance of tradition and modernity. I try to bring this influence into my music and aesthetic, weaving cultural elements into melodies, rhythms, and themes. At the same time, I value creative freedom above all. I produce what I feel in the moment, without restricting myself to one genre, because I believe the most powerful music comes from honesty and spontaneity. For me, being an artist is about freezing a state of mind or a burst of energy in sound so that it can be felt by others. After a break from releasing music, I’ve been exploring and producing across different styles, experimenting and pushing myself to grow while finding new ways to express my vision. This period has helped me refine my sound and direction, making me more versatile and confident in my identity as an artist. Now I’m excited to step forward and share more of my work, while also expanding my brand into streaming. Through streaming, I want to bring listeners closer to my creative process, my live energy, and the cultural influences that shape me.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
A bond between people is based on respect and trust. I don’t really believe that a bond, once broken, can be restored.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Regarding music, I gave up multiple times but kept coming back to it. Music is my way of expresing myself and often I crave the creativity.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
Probably Keanu Reeves. He went through so much in his personal life and it did not break him. On the opposite side, he had stellar success in his life and that did not change him as well. That is something to aspire to.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Eliminate all the nonsense out of my life, as well as all the toxic people
