I really enjoy things that help me reset, like quiet self care moments, organizing my home, spending time with my newborn and family or simply taking a walk. Anything that helps me recharge bring me joy
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Deon Lawton, the creator and lead stylist behind CrownedByD, a luxury beauty brand based in Brooklyn that specializes in enhancing natural beauty through premium hair extension services. With over a decade in the beauty industry, I’ve built CrownedByD on the belief that hair is more than a style it’s confidence, identity, and a moment of transformation.
My brand is known for its natural looking installs, attention to detail, I focus heavily on texture matching , seamless blends, and modern extension methods such as knotless crochet braids , Invisible K-Tips, tape-ins, and luxury hybrid installs.
What makes CrownedByD special is the combination of technical excellence and emotional experience. Every client is treated like royalty from the consultation to the final reveal. My mission is to help women look and feel like the most elevated version of themselves, both inside and out.
Right now, I’m entering a major rebranding era for CrownedByD expanding my education, refining my service menu, and introducing new extension techniques and curated luxury add-ons. It’s not just a brand upgrade, but a full transformation rooted in quality, innovation, and authenticity.
At the core of everything I do is passion for beauty, for empowerment, and for creating unforgettable experiences that leave lasting confidence. CrownedByD isn’t just hair it’s luxury, comfort, and confidence .
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world tried to shape me, I was a girl who loved creating beauty, who found joy in using her hands, and who believed in magic even before I knew it was called confidence. I was soft, expressive, and full of purpose long before I understood my own power.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. There were moments in my journey balancing who I am , business, life changes, and the pressure to constantly show up when I questioned everything. I felt drained, and it seemed easier to just stop. But every time, God, my family, my clients and the vision of the woman I’m becoming reminded me that I’m not done. The version of me that refused to quit is the reason CrownedByD is entering its strongest era yet.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in the beauty industry is that everything is ‘effortless.’ Clients are often told that seamless, luxury installs are simple to achieve, when in reality it takes skill, education, customization, and intention. Another lie is that anyone can master advanced extension techniques overnight. True luxury isn’t just about the final look it’s the entire process: consultation, texture matching, customizing the hair, creating a healthy foundation, and proper aftercare.
The industry also likes to pretend that trends matter more than technique, but the truth is that real mastery requires training, patience, and an understanding of hair science. At CrownedByD, I’m committed to the parts of the process that most people overlook, because that’s where the real quality and real luxury lives.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I built something bigger than a brand I built a space where women felt safe, seen, and transformed. That I poured my heart into my craft, my family, and my purpose. That I turned my own story into inspiration and created a legacy rooted in beauty, confidence, and love. And that even long after I’m gone, the seeds I planted continue to grow.
