Story & Lesson Highlights with Dineta Williams-Trigg of Central Phoenix

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dineta Williams-Trigg. Check out our conversation below.

Dineta, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I’m doing both! I have goals, but sometimes I like to wander. I always have an adventure when I do, and I always make it back on track.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am currently a film festival director, curating movies for five film festivals in different parts of the world. I started in front of the camera, but realized that I was much more effective helping others tell their stories. I produce and direct films when my busy schedule allows it.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
One of my first report cards from elementary school read, “Dineta talks too much in class.” Today, I realize I have always been a storyteller, a visionary, someone who sees the world differently. I’m comfortable letting my freak flag fly, and I know that I am enough.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
Writing, working on puzzles, and various crafts. As I was participating in these activities, I was problem solving. I didn’t know it then, but that is what was happening. I have always felt like an outsider, these activities gave me time to think about who I wanted to become.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That as people, we have an expiration date. That only the young and beautiful get to participate in life. George Bernard Shaw said “Youth is wasted on the young”. As a women of a certain age, I am having the time of my life, meeting new people from all walks of life, helping them tell their stories. laughing and crying and participating.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely, that happens before, during, and after a film festival. Most people don’t understand the time, energy, and effort it takes to put an event together. My job is to make it look effortless. I don’t do it for praise; I just want to help people tell their stories.
