Story & Lesson Highlights with Dr. Jehan D. Wilson, Ph.D.

Dr. Jehan D. Wilson, Ph.D. shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Dr. Jehan D., it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Something outside of work that brings me joy lately is simply embracing life’s little adventures. Whether that’s trying new foods, traveling to places I’ve never been, or just soaking in the beauty of a moment.

I’m a big believer that exploration isn’t only for the classroom or the boardroom, it’s a way of living. Exploring new cultures through food and travel feeds my soul, challenges my perspective, and sparks fresh ideas that I can bring back to my work in my community. Lately, I’ve found myself saying “yes” more often to new experiences, to laughter, to the unexpected, and that joy reminds me to stay present.

Life feels richer when I give myself permission to explore, taste, and truly live in the moment.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Dr. Jehan D. Wilson, Ph.D., and I like to call myself a multifaceted storyteller because at my core, whether I’m working as an entrepreneur, educator, author, podcaster, or strategist, my mission is the same: to empower others, especially children, through education, creativity, and storytelling.

As a proud mother and a first-generation college graduate, I know firsthand the power of curiosity, learning, and resilience. That’s why I’ve made it my mission to pour those values into everything I create. Most recently, I’ve launched a children’s book and activity series designed to inspire, teach, and spark imagination. The series includes:

– Dear My Little Girl
– Dear My Little Girl Coloring Book
– Number Tracing Workbook: Activity Book for Number Tracing, Practicing Pen Control, Counting + More
– Alphabet Tracing Workbook: Activity Book for Letter & Line Tracing, Practicing Pen Control + More
– Space Coloring Book for Kids
– Learn, Trace and Draw Shapes: Activity Workbook for Kids
– Learn to Read & Write Sight Words: Activity Workbook for Kids
– Cursive Handwriting Practice Workbook for Kids: Letters, Words, Sentences + More

This series is very personal to me because it’s more than just books; it’s about giving children the tools to dream bigger, express themselves, and build confidence in their creativity. What makes my work unique is that it blends my background in journalism, crisis communication, and education with my passion as a mother and doula to create resources that meet kids where they are while also nurturing their imagination.

Right now, I’m most excited about seeing how these books can become part of a child’s daily journey of learning and self-discovery. To me, it’s not just about teaching letters, numbers, or shapes; it’s about planting seeds of possibility and helping our children see themselves as capable of becoming whoever and whatever they dream to be.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed there may have been limits in life, even though I was always told otherwise.

But as I got older, I realized that those limits were never real. Today, I don’t subscribe to that thinking at all. I live with the unshakable belief that everything will always work out for me because I choose optimism, I choose resilience, and I choose to see the glass not just half full, but overflowing.

Challenges don’t scare me; they remind me that I was built to rise above them. There are no ceilings, no boundaries, no “can’t” in my vocabulary. I know that possibility is endless, and that’s the energy I bring into my life, my work, and the way I empower others, especially children, to believe the same about themselves.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be this: Believe in yourself, always. No matter how uncertain the road may look, no matter how many twists or challenges come your way, everything will work out exactly as it should. The journey may not be perfect, but it will shape you into someone stronger, wiser, and unstoppable.

Trust that you are capable of more than you can even imagine, and remember, your glass will always be half full, because you were born to overflow.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
A belief I am unshakably committed to, no matter how long it takes, is that every child deserves to be empowered through education, creativity, and storytelling. That belief is the heartbeat of everything I do. It’s why I pour my energy into writing books like Dear My Little Girl and creating activity workbooks that not only teach skills but also spark imagination and confidence.

This isn’t just a project for me, it’s a lifelong mission. I know that when we give children tools to dream without limits, we’re shaping future leaders, innovators, and changemakers. I am committed to keeping pushing that vision forward, whether it’s through my books, my teaching, or my voice, because I deeply believe in the ripple effect: when a child feels seen, supported, and inspired, the world changes.

For me, time doesn’t matter; impact does. I am here for the long game, because I know in my heart that everything will always work out, and that what I’m building for children today will plant seeds for generations to come.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
One aspect in life that I understand deeply, that I think many people overlook, is that tomorrow and yesterday don’t actually exist.

The only thing that truly exists is the exact moment you are in right now. That’s where life happens, that’s where joy lives, and that’s where change begins.

Too often, we let the weight of the past or the uncertainty of the future steal from the power of the present. I’ve learned to embrace this moment fully, whether I’m creating a children’s book, trying a new food in a new city, or simply spending time with my loved ones. Living in the now is how I stay optimistic, how I keep my glass overflowing, and how I remind myself and others that limits don’t exist.

For me, the present moment is not just where I live, it’s where I thrive, and it’s the energy I want to pass on to children through creativity, education, and storytelling.
