Story & Lesson Highlights with Eric Wohlwend

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Eric Wohlwend. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Eric, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I wake up, read for an hour & then have breakfast.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
After losing 3 jobs in 2 years I decided to start my own business. I started buying, rehabbing & renting properties. Over the past 20 years I have done more than a thousand of these. Not only have my real estate holdings grown, I have started multiple companies to support them. Early on I started teaching others to start business & buy property. I continue to do this with my best-selling books, daily Real Power Family Radio Show/podcast & a variety of classes that I teach & are online. I get to do this with my family. Our goal is to make our students & listeners financially free so they have time freedom & location freedom.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I got my 1st job at 11. I also started a business mowing yards at that time. I was a great employee… until I wasn’t. I got the degree that was expected of me… It did not help improve my life. I realized that if I saved money it would be eaten away by inflation. At least I figured that out in grade school. Even though I knew that back then, I didn’t know what the alternatives were until I was about 29. That is when everything changed in my life.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
In the Army I was physically, and worse yet mentally beaten. I started to give up on myself. It was late one night in Sapper School. We were doing a timed 20 km road march with heavy packs. I was so far behind that even the trail vehicle passed me when I refused to get in. A while later I decided that I could not quit, but I wanted out. So I ran down the next mountain as fast as I could hoping to break my leg. I figured that was a respectable way to give up. Not only did that not work (no breaks) I caught up with everyone. After a couple more miles I passed many of them. There have been 3 very bad times for me in business. Every time I looked back at that time in the Army or my short time in combat & thought “Well, no one is shooting at me so this can’t be that hard to get through.”

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. I am what you see on stage & what you hear on the radio. The most common comment we get is “You guys are so real!”

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If immortality were real, what would you build?
First, who says immortality isn’t real? I will continue on in history through my kids. My body may not make it past 120 years, but my thoughts and ideas will. By the time my kids are my age, science may be able to greatly extend the normal lifespan. Even if it doesn’t, I will always strive co create perfect. I’ll attempt to be the perfect dad. I’ll work to create the perfect business. I accept I will probably fail at perfection, but that is much better than failing at being average or comfortable.
