Story & Lesson Highlights with Jake Gallagher of Newton

We recently had the chance to connect with Jake Gallagher and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jake, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Running a videography business means no two days are ever the same and that’s something I truly love about it. One day I might be flying a drone over a large-scale land clearing site, the next I’m spending hours behind the computer editing footage, and other days I’m capturing the emotion and energy of a wedding day. I also spend time documenting contractor projects from start to finish, telling the story of a transformation through video.

That variety is what keeps me motivated. Being able to spend my days doing something I’m genuinely passionate about is incredibly meaningful to me. At the core of everything I do is storytelling—whether it’s showcasing the progress of a project, highlighting a business, or preserving the memories of a wedding day. Helping people tell their stories through film is what makes this work so rewarding.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jake Gallagher, and I’m the owner and founder of JGFilms LLC, a videography company built on the belief that every story deserves to be told with purpose and authenticity. I specialize in creating high-quality video content for businesses, weddings, and events, helping clients showcase who they are, what they do, and why it matters.

My journey into videography wasn’t a straight line. After graduating with a film degree in 2020, the pandemic made it difficult to break into the industry. Instead of giving up, I leaned into freelancing, working a variety of jobs while slowly building my skill set, investing in professional equipment, and gaining hands-on experience on both small and large-scale productions. That persistence eventually allowed me to turn my passion into a full-time business.

What makes JGFilms unique is the level of care and intention I bring to every project. I take the time to understand my clients, their goals, and the story they want to tell. Whether I’m documenting a wedding day, producing content for a local business, or capturing large-scale construction and land-clearing projects, my goal is always the same: create cinematic, story-driven content that feels real and impactful.

At the end of the day, I’m grateful to do work that I love while helping others share their stories and I’m excited to continue growing, collaborating, and creating meaningful content through JGFilms.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
Tough question. There isn’t one specific person who taught me the most about work. Instead, it was the combination of many people and experiences that shaped my work ethic. The path to where I am today wasn’t easy. I’ve gone through 14-hour days on film sets, physically demanding work on job sites, early mornings, and long travel days, all of which pushed me both mentally and physically.

Along the way, I was fortunate to work alongside people who embodied a true hustle-and-grind mentality. Watching how hard they worked, how committed they were to their craft, and how they showed up day after day had a huge impact on me. Those experiences taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of taking pride in your work.

One of the most important lessons I learned through it all was the value of staying positive and grateful. No matter how challenging the day or the task, maintaining a positive mindset and appreciation for the opportunity to work made a difference. That sense of gratitude, combined with hard work and perseverance, continues to guide how I run my business and approach every project today.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
“I’m proud of you.” Proud of the effort, the long days, the sacrifices, and the decision to keep going even when the path wasn’t clear. Every challenge, setback, and lesson played a role in shaping who I am today, and it was all worth it.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to building my business into something bigger than just myself. My long-term goal is to create a strong network of shooters, editors, and creatives who all share the same mindset of helping others tell their stories through meaningful, high-quality content.

Just as important to me is creating a work environment rooted in respect. I want JGFilms to be a place where creatives who are struggling to break into the industry feel supported, valued, and given real opportunities to grow. Helping others develop their skills, find their creative voice, and build sustainable careers is something I’m committed to, no matter how long it takes.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe God gives everyone a unique purpose, and for me, I feel grateful to have discovered mine at an early age. I was always drawn to movies and the process behind how they’re created, the storytelling, the emotion, and the impact film can have on people.

Looking back, that pull toward filmmaking never really left. It guided my decisions, pushed me through challenges, and ultimately led me to build a career doing something that genuinely fulfills me. I don’t feel like I’m doing what I was told to do…I’m doing what I was created to do.
