We recently had the chance to connect with Jennifer Sims and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My husband and I just adopted a rescue dog named Charlie, and we are completely smitten. He’s two years old, ridiculously sweet, and officially a “super mutt.”
Naturally, I had to know what this adorable mystery mix was made of, so I sent off his DNA. If you name a breed, there’s a good chance it’s in there somewhere. He’s part Siberian Husky, German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Chow Chow, Golden Retriever. My friend calls him a “Bitsa,” as in “bits o’ this and bits o’ that.” I call him perfect.
It’s been pure joy having a dog again — even if Charlie still thinks “walking nicely on a leash” is more of a suggestion than a rule. He’s bouncy, happy, and always up for a good game of fetch. He keeps me on my toes, makes a great booth buddy, and honestly, we fell head over heels for this doggo the day we met.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an on-camera actor, voice actor, voiceover coach/producer — and advocate for more representation behind the mic.
I’m honored to be a finalist for the Building Doors campaign, which advocates for equal opportunities in voice over, especially in male dominated spaces.
The campaign encourages male-dominated brands — like those in sports/cars/finance/promo— to embrace gender diversity and use women’s voices in spaces where they’re not often heard. When businesses reflect their audiences and gender equality, it’s good for their bottom line. Win-win!
As part of the campaign each finalist re-voiced a spot originally voiced by a man. I re-voiced a spot for Manscaped, which could’ve been risky given the subject matter. I’d love to become one of the 12 Door Builders for 2026, so if this resonates with folks, please take a look at my video @buildingdoorsVO on YouTube:

To vote for my video, all you have to do is give it a “LIKE.”
As a voice actor I specialize in commercial work and narration and character-based projects. My coaching style is supportive, motivational and I’ve been told, entertaining. I really enjoy working with actors who are beginning their career a little later in life, because that’s what I did. I know what it feels like to think it’s “too late” to realize a Creative dream. But Creativity does not age — the right time to start is always right now..
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A defining moment that shaped how I see the world was the day I decided to walk away from my job as Director of Broadcast for an ad agency. I’d always loved working in advertising, but I found myself in an environment that had become toxic and dysfunctional. This job was taking a toll on every aspect of my life.
The job was mentally, creatively, and spiritually draining, and there was no relief in sight. I’d never felt more defeated in my career, and I realized life was far too short to spend it in an intolerable situation. So, I quit, I had no “plan B,” other than to find a way to have a career that would bring me more joy.
That decision led me back to my long-held passion for acting, and eventually to voiceover. While it’s been an unconventional path, it’s the perfect fit. This experience shaped how I see the world by showing me that sometimes you have to get deeply uncomfortable before you can be brave enough to take a risk on yourself.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self to care less what other people think and care a LOT more about what’s best for you,
Other people’s opinions won’t pay the bills or help you fulfill your purpose.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friends would say what really matters to me is community and championing and supporting artists,
The freelance Creative journey can be very isolating and it’s important to me that my fellow artists know that don’t have to go it alone.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I truly believe I was born to do what I’m doing. Everything about acting, voiceover, coaching and advocating for my fellow Creatives aligns with who I am.
This career has given me the chance to work with amazing, creative people, combining my talent for helping others with my love of storytelling. It allows me to bring all of my different skill sets to my work and, hopefully, make a positive impact on others.
