We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jessamyn Dodd. Check out our conversation below.
Jessamyn, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I am a news reporter. Where do I start? One thing that readers do not understand is that sometimes we don’t have a say in what we write. Sometimes our outlets push certain agendas. You have to choose between keeping your job and feeding your child or walking out.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jessamyn Dodd, and I am a journalist. I have moved around a lot and lived in several major cities, as well as rural areas. My passion is filmmaking and telling stories, but I haven’t had the opportunity to do that yet. Although I have several projects I would like to see made.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
I think my father taught me the most about work. I learned a lot by watching him in action and watching him in the darkroom develop his photos. But I feel that with every job I have had, I learned a lot.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I am so afraid of failure. And I have failed a lot.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I have a project that I have been working on for almost 15 years. I don’t know if I will ever finish it. It is a story that is really important to me. I’ve had people who were interested, but you know Hollywood- a lot of people say they are going to help you, but they don’t. I learned that if you don’t have a contract in your hand- you don’t have a deal.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am at home with my son, my dog, and my cat. I love watching movies or playing video games with my son.
