Story & Lesson Highlights with Judy of Adams Morgan DC

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Judy. Check out our conversation below.

Judy, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
My typical day at the moment feels somewhat overwhelming. As a business owner, I don’t always have the option of maternity leave, and being a natural goal setter makes it challenging to refrain from working while also navigating the journey of first-time motherhood. Consequently, when I’m not focused on my business, I’m caring for my son, who is now two months old.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Judy, the owner of JudyMakesJuices, a mobile juice bar. I started this business in response to my mother’s battle with breast cancer in 2015 and again in 2019. I decided to delve into juicing after discovering its daily health benefits and how fasting can help our bodies reset. Since then, we have launched a juice truck that participates in various festivals. This year, we began operating within Shanklin Hall, which allows us to offer our products through Uber Eats and DoorDash, as well as organize our own events. Additionally, we’ve expanded our menu to include catering options such as paninis, smoothies, açaí bowls, and parfaits.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
This is a difficult question to answer since I’m not entirely certain, but it feels like it’s time to close the chapter on teaching. I’ve always had a passion for working with children; however, the demands and expectations of the profession are significant. Now that I have my own family, I want to dedicate that same level of energy and effort to them. Nonetheless, given the current economy and the fact that teaching is my only professional experience, it remains a straightforward career choice. We shall see what the futures holds.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
A few years ago, I went through a miscarriage while simultaneously beginning my journey with JMJ. People often ask how I managed to launch JMJ, and reflecting on that time, I realized I channeled my sadness, anger, and pain into building JMJ.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
I tend to keep my personal life private, although I do share aspects of it from time to time. Regardless of how it may appear, I always strive to show up as my true and authentic self.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I do believe I am fulfilling my purpose. A few years back, my grandmother gifted me items from my childhood, which included my SOL writing papers from either 3rd or 5th grade. In those essays, I emphasized the significance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and highlighted the importance of healthy eating and exercise to achieve that goal.
