We’re looking forward to introducing you to Juliette Cochet. Check out our conversation below.
Juliette, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Reading. Reading. Reading.
Reading has such a powerful magic to itself that makes me, at least, truly lose track of time. I can spend hours reading and doing nothing else, and yet it feels like only 5min went by. I’m a huge fan of fantasy books, but am currently starting to read Dostoïevski and it is an intellectual workout but I love a good challenge!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Of course!
My name is Juliette Cochet, I am a French NYC based Artist mainly focused on Acting. I moved to NYC from Paris when I was 18 to pursue my dream to become an actress and since then I have been developing that craft by performing in 50+ short films, wrote and directing 3 of my own, being on stage as Kathy in “Murder’s in the Heir” and as Lila in the off-Broadway original play “Women Who Cut” for 6 nights at the AMT Theatre, and finally in starring as a Lead in a SAG feature film currently in production called “The Blue Woman”.
I consider myself an artist as well as I often take film photos in my free time, help taking BTS content on set, write a lot of poetry and essays, as well as being the Social Media Manager for the Off-Broadway play “training_set” set this winter in Theatre Row!
I think we all have a story to tell and a purpose to achieve in this life. I believe mine is to inspire others that following a dream is the bravest act of self-love you can do to yourself, and it is possible to reach anything.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe a lack of effort, lack of consideration and a betrayal break bonds between people. Wether it was intentional or not.
But on the other hand, I think empathy, truly listening to the other without judgment, putting your ego aside and making efforts can restore anything.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Every time I have to say “goodbye” to my family and my home, it breaks my heart so deeply into many pieces that it makes me think “is this even worth it? Is this life worth this amount of pain?”.
When I spend days working on 2,3 or 4 jobs without any days of break, leaving my house at 8am and coming back at midnight, never seeing my loved ones even those who live with me, it makes me wonder “is this what needs to be done?”.
I’m going to be honest, I still don’t know if it is worth it. But what I know is when I’m acting, on stage or on a set, I feel so incredibly happy like I never felt before, and I don’t think I could ever give this up. Acting is not my job, it’s who I am. My heart was created to tell stories and I can’t give this up.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Being truthfully authentic. I think that’s a common French value but I love truthful people, I love when they tell me what I need to hear, not what I want to, I love when people that are truthfully themselves. And before anybody says anything, NO, French people are not rude, they’re just real!
I don’t need to be around people that keep complimenting me, or being so overly nice and always putting on a good face etc… I see that as a mask that people put on, good for them, I appreciate the effort but personally I need to be around people that are weirdly and unapologetically themselves. I hope to be that person as well.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop being on my phone so much!! I would throw it away and never look back. I would go after my dream like a maniac, would spend more times with my loved one and would not give a single care about what I can’t control, and would give all my attention on what I can control.
