We recently had the chance to connect with Kaelyn Marie Fuglaar and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Kaelyn Marie , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
We recently started homeschooling our kids again, and although it requires more from us, it’s also giving us so much life. We love having our kids home, playing such an important role in their education, and getting to be apart of those every day moments. I’m so thankful my business allowed me to do this.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kaelyn, the founder of KMVA, a powerhouse VA agency that supports powerhouse women entrepreneurs. I’m also a VA coach and my superpower is helping women step into the fullness of who they were created to be.
My journey started after I was laid off with 30 days’ notice and two little kids watching me figure out what came next. Instead of going back to another job that boxed me in, I bet on myself. I started my VA business from home, scaled to 6 figures in under a year, built an agency, and now I lead a team that supports some of the most amazing women in business.
What makes KMVA unique is that we don’t just “manage tasks.” We become your strategic right hand. We’re the team that gets it, executes quickly, and helps you grow. Our clients are brilliant women who want to make money, impact, and live a life they actually love, so our work is as much about alignment and confidence as it is about systems and strategy.
Right now, I’m excited about expanding KMVA and continuing to create spaces, online and in person, where women feel supported, seen, and empowered to build businesses that feel like home to them.
At the end of the day, I believe every woman has a version of herself she knows she’s meant to become. I just help her get there, without losing who she is along the way.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents. Both in different ways, but equally important. My parents were shaped by their parents (my grandparents), who came from Cuba and did what they had to do in order to create a beautiful life for my parents and their siblings. Working 2-3 jobs and still being loving mothers and fathers was their norm.
My parents carried that work ethic, and still do, and because of them, so do I. I watched both my parents get up day after day to build a life they were proud of and make sure me and my brothers were more than taken care of.
Entrepreneurship I learned from my dad. He’s the OG entrepreneur and I know I wouldn’t be where I am today if he hadn’t led the way. Growing up, I watched him take risk after risk, always with the same excitement and passion for freedom. What some would call failures, he would laugh about, learn from, and not let it stop him from taking the next risk. Because of him, I knew I could take a risk on myself after I was laid off. And wow, did it pay off.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell her that she’s enough. She’s beautiful enough, kind enough, funny enough, smart enough. That she doesn’t have to change for anyone. She doesn’t have to say yes just because everyone else is. And that there’s people and things coming that she has always prayed for. Keep going but stay true to who you are along the way. These are things I get to tell my daughter now.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My husband. Some may know him as “hot hubby” because that’s how I refer to him. And although he is a smoke show, his character is what made me fall in love with him over 11 years ago and what does it still to this day. He has a heart of gold, always sees the best in others, and refuses to get offended. He’s kept my head above water in tough seasons and always points me back to truth when I feel like things are falling apart. I still can’t believe he’s mine. (Mushy, I know!)
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I was far more than my work. I hope people say I loved my family more than anything. That I leaned heavily on my faith, I took risks, and I always did things because I wanted better for me and my family. I hope they say I made them laugh and feel loved. That I knew how to work hard and I knew how to play hard. That I had a fervor for life and it was infectious.
