Kamara Campbell shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Kamara, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Typically, a normal day consist of getting up around 4am to spend time with the Lord, waking up my husband around 5:50am and getting my girls up also around that time. By 6:30am I am taking my girls to the bus stop and then at 7am, I am now getting my son up for school. 7:50am, we are heading to the bus stop and once my son gets on the bus, I go back inside to clean the living room and kitchen. I then begin to work on any projects for clients or any business assignments I need to do. The day usually also consists of phone calls of pouring into people/praying and by 2pm, it is now back to shift in getting ready for all the kids to come home for the day. Depending on which day it is may consist of taking my kids to appointments or practice. In the evenings, it may be filled with bible study, meetings, or being able to actually relax.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Sure! My name is Kamara Campbell and I am first and foremost a follower of Christ. I am a wife to Joseph Campbell and a mother to four children. I co-own Exodus 12 Productions with my husband since the start of July 7, 2020. Exodus was launched during COVID times when everyone was home and laid off from work or had to work from home. The first video my husband and I ever did was called Distracted and to this day, it is our top viewed short film.
Exodus 12 Productions was created by standing on chapter 12 in the book of Exodus in the bible. Chapter 12 is where the children of Israel are leaving the bondage of Egypt. The Lord showed me that any video we create is to make sure that it’s going to help someone get free. Since then we have made over 50 short films, produced 1 movie, and currently in post-production for the 2nd, and pre-production for the 3rd.
I originally started off with doing photography and then that lead to videography. Overtime, I stayed in the director/writing seat and focused more on that area. While Exodus is currently expanding in ways that we will soon reveal, we are excited to announce our newest movie Identity: Temptation will be premiered early spring and will be released in the spring of 2026 as well!
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Whew! Well of course Jesus Christ. My relationship with Jesus has changed me for the greater! Not just from being a bad person to good, but really becoming more Christ like, dying to my ways, realizing that I have true identity in him no matter what people may say. At one point I was in a place where I did feel worthless about myself. I felt like nothing I did matter and I was walking around depressed and didn’t even realize it! I would eat junk food to fill the pain and void I was feeling, but eventually I grew tired of that and had to verbally express myself when I would pray and talk to the Lord. It was then, that I realized the scriptures about I am an overcomer, I am precious, a treasure etc that it really helped shaped me into who I became. No longer am I the little girl that wouldn’t really talk much, but now you can’t shut me up, especially if I am talking about Jesus! Haha.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are loved and special! Don’t let no one tell you otherwise!
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Honestly, I feel like like when it comes to the Christian industry in movies, especially the ones who are run by African-Americans, they believe the lie that you have to commit sin on screen, in order to make it real. I do not believe that. If I truly honor God, the body of Christ, and I honor his Word does not mean that I have to now make two people who are not married to kiss each other, or to create a sex scene, expose body parts etc. I can get the story line across without compromising God’s word.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That Kamara was just a girl who truly love Jesus, loved her family, and love to create.
