Story & Lesson Highlights with Katrina Blunt of Kenilworth

We recently had the chance to connect with Katrina Blunt and have shared our conversation below.

Katrina , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
There was definitely a time when I was glad I didn’t act fast. Years ago, I was watching a episode of “Behind The Music”, where they would tell the story of different artists’ journey. Im always watching “Unsung” or a documentary of about different artists. This particular episode was on singer-songwriter NeYo. I was so inspired after watching and learning about his journey that I literally was ready to quit my job and move to California to pursue my music career. I had no plan but I was very much inspired lol. I remember calling my mother on the phone and running down to her how I was feeling and what I was about to do. My mother has always been wise and a woman of logic. She simply told me If I went there at that time, without a place to stay or a plan, I could potentially be setting myself up for failure (in so many words). Not knowing that I would be moving there in 2022 (years later) and how it happened still blows my mind til this day. Not only did I wind up having a place to stay, I also had a job already lined up and more. Everything just fell into place. So glad I didn’t act fast before.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a female singer-songwriter/ producer from Washington DC.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
The person who saw me clearly before I could see myself was definitely my mother. She always told me I was a STAR. She still tells me this til this day.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, I would tell her I love her and that I’m proud of the woman she’s gonna be.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
The person I admired for her character and not her power was my Pastor Mildred Isaac-Jones. She is no longer here but she was a true woman of GOD. She is no longer here now but I always admired her and still do til this day.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
It took me years to know my purpose but once I found it, I’ve been walking in it ever since. My mission is to encourage, inspire and motivate. When I’m gone, I hope that my story will encourage lil girls around the world to follow their dreams.
