We’re looking forward to introducing you to Ki Settles. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Ki, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I am chasing my purpose and if i stopped i’d lose myself.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ki Settles i go by Ki and my company’s name is 2Talented. I hail from Queens, NY and my company is all about capturing memories and bringing meanigful stories to life. Even though my business premise is videography I am big on giving back to my community and I am working on having my brand be both a media company as well as having a non profit sector. Right now i’m working on expanding my brand by pushing myself out of comfort zone and venturing into other business ventures.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Competing in sports and academic contests and actually winning trophies and medals. It showed me at an early age that hard work pays off and reminded myself that i can do anything i put my mind to do.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
When my brother passed in 2023 his death reminded me that life is short and the importance of making every day count. Seeing how is passing has taken a major toll on my parents and his kids it really put a lot of things into perspective for me. Grief can either rob you of your life or push you into Greatness. I have chosen the latter. I have really been pushing myself to my limits and trying new things. I am all my parents have left now and I want to set a good example for my nephew Jacori and my niece Malia. I was already focused the pain just made me go 10 times harder than before.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire my mother. She sacrificed so much for me to be who I am today. From putting me into private school, moving me to a house the suburbs, allowing me to play sports and supporting my journey of entering the entertainment business she has been behind me every step of the way. When I chose to drop out of school she understood and never made me feel bad about my choices. She has allowed me to move to the beat of my own drums. She has been super supportive but the true test of her character was watching her strength after losing my brother. My mom stood on her faith. She never stopped praying and wasn’t mad at God for taking her son she thanked God for keeping his promise to her before my brother left this earth which was my brother giving his life to Christ.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What will you regret not doing?
Nothing because I plan on using every gift God has given me. So i’m going to do everything i want to do.
