Story & Lesson Highlights with Latrise Hunter of Indian Land/Fort Mill

We recently had the chance to connect with Latrise Hunter and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Latrise, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
People often ask what matters most, intelligence, energy, or integrity. For me, the answer is always integrity.

Don’t get me wrong, I love working with smart, driven people. Intelligence helps you make informed decisions, and energy keeps things moving forward. But if integrity is missing, none of that really matters. Without it, intelligence can be used to deceive, and energy can be misdirected.

Integrity is what guides how I show up in my business, in partnerships, and in life. It’s doing the right thing when no one’s watching. It’s keeping promises, staying honest, and treating others with respect. That’s the kind of foundation I want to build everything on.

At the end of the day, intelligence and energy may open doors, but integrity is what keeps them open.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Latrise Hunter, the heart behind LH Fun Travel, a boutique travel company I started out of pure love for seeing people explore the world, connect deeply, and celebrate life in unforgettable ways.

What I do is so much more than planning vacations. I curate meaningful travel experiences through group trips, romance travel, birthday getaways, and cultural journeys, that bring people together and help them create memories that truly matter. Whether it’s a destination wedding in Mexico, a soul-stirring visit to Ghana, or a girls’ trip through Thailand, I’m all about making travel fun, easy, and deeply personal.

As a wife, mom, and entrepreneur, I understand how busy life gets, and how important it is to take time to live. That’s why I work hard to take the stress out of travel planning, so my clients can focus on the joy, the connection, and the experience.

Right now, I’m focused on expanding our hosted group trips and creating more opportunities for travelers to step outside their comfort zones and into something amazing. I’m also passionate about mentoring other travel advisors who want to build businesses with heart and integrity, just like I did.

Travel changed my life, and now I get to help others experience that same magic. And honestly? That’s the most fulfilling part of it all.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that really shaped how I saw the world was the first time I stepped foot in Ghana.

It wasn’t just about being in a new country, it was the feeling of standing on ancestral land, learning the real history behind the slave dungeons, and witnessing the resilience and pride of the people. I remember attending a naming ceremony where I was given a Ghanaian name, and in that moment, something shifted in me. I felt seen, connected, and grounded in a way I never had before.

That experience made me realize that travel isn’t just about checking off places, it’s about transformation. It’s about connection. And it’s about honoring stories, ours and others’, in the most authentic way possible.

It’s why I do what I do now. Because I want others to feel that same spark, that same shift, that same expansion of perspective that reminds us just how big, beautiful, and meaningful this world truly is.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
One fear that’s held me back for much of my life is the fear of being “too much” or not enough at the same time.

Too ambitious. Too bold. Too passionate. Or on the flip side, not experienced enough, not ready enough, not “perfect” enough to step fully into my vision.

Especially as a woman, a wife, a mom, and a business owner, that fear showed up in quiet ways, second-guessing my ideas, shrinking in rooms where I should’ve taken up space, or delaying big moves because I didn’t want to make mistakes.

But travel helped shift that mindset. Being in places that challenged me, inspired me, and reminded me how capable I truly am gave me the confidence to stop waiting for permission. To show up fully. To lead with both heart and courage.

Now, when that fear creeps in, I remind myself: I’m not here to play small. I’m here to build something meaningful, and to help others do the same.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
One project I’m committed to, no matter how long it takes, is creating a hosted travel community that feels like family.

Not just a collection of trips, but a space where people can show up as their full selves, feel safe to explore the world, and build real, lasting connections through travel. I want LH Fun Travel to be known for more than great vacations, I want it to represent joy, freedom, culture, and togetherness.

Whether it’s a solo traveler joining one of our group trips for the first time or a couple celebrating their love story across the globe, I’m building something rooted in trust, integrity, and shared experience.

It’s not about how fast it grows. It’s about growing it with intention, and showing people that they don’t have to travel alone, literally or figuratively.

That vision keeps me going. And I’m in it for the long haul.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, I could, and I do.

Because for me, it’s never been about the praise. It’s about the purpose. I show up, give my best, and pour into my work because I believe in the power of what I’m building. I believe in the experiences I create, the lives I impact, and the stories that unfold through travel, whether anyone’s clapping or not.

Of course, recognition feels good. But what really fills me up is knowing that I gave it my all. That someone felt seen, celebrated, or inspired because I stayed committed, even behind the scenes.

So yes, I could give everything my best even if no one ever praised me, because integrity doesn’t wait for applause. It just keeps showing up.
