Story & Lesson Highlights with Laura Gorman

We recently had the chance to connect with Laura Gorman and have shared our conversation below.

Laura , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I love to start my day by setting my intentions. My mornings are so special to me, and set the tone for my day. I always wake up extra early, and love to watch the sun come up on my back porch as much as my schedule allows. I’ve come to love breath work within the last year, and now it’s a daily practice. I also journal and list what I’m grateful for, but in a very specific way. I set my goals, but it’s never a “to-do list”. That simple shift in perspective has been huge for me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a Texas-based makeup artist that started in the beauty industry 16 years ago, when I moved to Texas from New York City. I transitioned organically into the bridal industry 12 years ago, and it’s been the most incredible experience, to have the opportunity to build a bridal beauty brand. I opened my business in 2018, and I couldn’t be more thankful for this beautiful journey.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My Grandmother. She emigrated to this country with a 6rh grade education, but never let anything stand in her way, and always had the most joyous spirit. Her legacy means everything to me, and there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t remember something she taught me.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
After a personal, and very painful private heath crisis 3 years ago, I contemplated giving up. But I was fortunate enough to have a strong core support system. And navigating this process, I found a strength I didn’t know I had. I’m forever changed by that experience, and I choose to see it as a gift. A gift that taught me so much about myself.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
People. And how I make them feel about themselves.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I was kind, and I somehow made their lives better.
