Story & Lesson Highlights with Lisa Hodorovych

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lisa Hodorovych. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Actually, yes. Yesterday (October 8th), I was formatting my next novel, VAMPIRE FROM HELL, and the last line of each page wasn’t lining up properly. There were some pages that were fine, but there were some where the last line was a few inches up from the bottom and I couldn’t figure out why. I literally stared at my laptop for God knows how long, pondering how I can fix this problem. It wasn’t until I reread my notes on how to format that I was reminded that the “Widow/Orphan Control” in the “Paragraph” box needed to be off, not on. I went through my book, turning the “Widow/Orphan Control” off, and guess what?! Problem solved!

I literally palmed my forehead and laughed out loud; I couldn’t believe it was something that simple. But at the same time, once it was fixed, I was able to look it over to make sure everything was looking good and it is. It’s looking beautiful! I can’t wait to publish it on October 31, 2025.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! My name is Lisa Hodorovych. I am an author, a small business owner, and a blogger. Currently, I have two books out: THE DISAPPEARANCE and HE’S HERE!; book one and book two (respectively) in the Lake Minnetaha Series. They are suspense/thriller/horror novels with romance and comedy mixed in. My third book, VAMPIRE FROM HELL, is due out on Halloween, October 31, 2025, and is a vampire romance novel. It will be book one in the Vampire from Hell Trilogy.

My business is called Quoth the Writer. It is a publication production company where I assist fellow writers in facilitating the publishing process. This means I can help with formatting the book, cover art for the book, editing/proofreading the book, and/or publishing the book. No, I am not a publishing company, but I can help with finding the right places to publish, whether they decide to self-publish or go the traditional route.

Lastly, my blog, BOOKS AND TEA AND GODZILLA…OH MY!, discusses different teas and their benefits, reviews different teas and tea shops/coffee shops, reviews books, and discusses the greatest monster of all time, Godzilla. I wanted to create a safe place for fellow tea drinkers, fellow readers, and fellow Godzilla fanatics to come to and talk about their favorite tea, their favorite book, or their favorite Godzilla movie, and I feel like I created that with this blog.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Here’s what’s funny. I always knew I was going to be an author. I still have my fifth-grade yearbook, and every so often I look at it because under my photo, you will learn three things about me. My favorite subject was apparently gym, my favorite activity was reading, and my future goal…being an author! Yup, I knew back then that I was going to be an author.
However, the world was telling me that I should be a teacher. The world also made me think that I should be a vet or a zookeeper. But I always knew my true calling, and I stayed my course.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Oh my goodness, yes! I could probably count using all my fingers and all my toes the times I almost gave up on my dream. From getting rejections to receiving constructive criticism that made me feel like I wasn’t a good writer (which actually helped me become a better one), there were so many times where I was ready to put the pen down or close my laptop.

Recently, I was at a book festival where everyone who came up to my table didn’t buy my books, and I was utterly disheartened. I have done a lot of different events over the years and there have been a lot of times readers didn’t buy my books, but for some reason, on that particular day, it really hurt me. I left that festival thinking I would finish up this year and then be done doing festivals. I would publish my next book and be done with writing.

Thankfully, though, I did other events after that festival, and I was reminded how much I love doing what I do. How much I love this career I chose. And then I continued working on my next novel and was once again reminded how much I love writing.

There are going to be good days, there are going to be great days, and there are going to be really bad days that’ll make you think you should give up. DON’T! If you love what you’re doing, if you’re living your dream, then do not stop! Keep going! It’ll be worth it in the end.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I was so utterly dumb in my high school/college years. I had a “belief” that you didn’t need to read in order to become a good writer. I proudly proclaimed, “I’m a writer who doesn’t read.”

Yup! I wasn’t exactly the brightest bulb in the box, but thankfully I’ve learned. I started reading again and realized how helpful it is to my own writing. Whether I’m reading fantasy, contemporary, non-fiction, or any genre really, it has truly helped me become a better writer.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Absolutely! Whenever I’m working on my novels and things are going right – the story is flowing well, the formatting is pretty perfect, etc. Whenever I get my book in my hands for the very first time. Whenever I’m doing work for a client and things are going well. There has been a plethora of times I’m “tap dancing,” shouting for joy, crying happy tears because I am truly so happy and so excited about what I’m doing in my career.
