Madisyn Banks shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Madisyn, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: When was the last time you felt true joy?
The last time I truly felt joy was recently, as I reflected on 2024. A year fully dedicated to MOODHOUSE, my first “baby,” so to speak. What began as a small graphic design side hustle in 2021 while I was pursuing my undergraduate degree at Clark Atlanta University has grown into something much bigger. Fun fact: I came up with the name MOODHOUSE in my college apartment while interning at Taylor Strategy. Back then, I knew I wanted to expand it someday, but life, as it does, had other plans. Between contractual work and pursuing my graduate degree at the University of Southern California, that dream had to wait.
This year, I made a promise to myself: to finally bring MOODHOUSE to life as the full-service boutique PR agency I always envisioned. And that’s exactly what I did, I found a small opening and added more rooms to #theHOUSE.
2024 was full of new experiences and wins. From celebrating Stephen Jones’ successful mayoral campaign in Columbus, Mississippi, to wrapping up summer with the joy of food festivals, it’s been a year of growth and gratitude. Most importantly, it’s been a privilege to guide and support the next generation of mass communication professionals: Anna Asim, Bella Barr, Mitali Patange, and Natalia Tordesillas, as Founder and CEO.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Madisyn Banks, a publicist and mass communication professional with about seven years of experience. Ten-plus if we’re counting the pre-corporate hustle! I’m a proud Tuscaloosa, Alabama native who began my journey at Clark Atlanta University, and today, I’m the Founder and CEO of MOODHOUSE, a full-service boutique PR agency rooted in authenticity and purpose.
A lot of my work starts from the heart of younger Madisyn. As a first-generation everything, I faced many challenges getting to where I am today, and that journey continues to be the driving force behind both me and my “baby,” MOODHOUSE. It’s what keeps us grounded, inspired, and constantly evolving.
At MOODHOUSE, everything we do is built on five core pillars: Authenticity, Advocacy, Creativity, Philanthropy, and Excellence. These values guide how we tell stories, elevate voices, and deliver experiences that truly resonate. This year, we expanded #theHOUSE with two exciting additions. The Atrium, our in-house event studio for immersive brand experiences, and The Shop, our Career Suite that empowers emerging professionals to grow and connect within the industry.
Giving back is at the heart of our mission. Through The Haus Way Forward Foundation, our philanthropic arm, we continue our oath to advocacy. Creating opportunities, uplifting communities, and championing the next generation of communicators and creators.
MOODHOUSE isn’t just a PR agency. it’s a movement built on heart, creativity, and the belief that every story deserves to be told with authenticity and excellence.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Growing up, I was always in my own lane. Let’s just say I couldn’t be anyone but myself, and trust me, the bullies didn’t make that easy. But over time, I realized that everything setting me apart was actually my superpower. So, I leaned into it, whatever “that” was.
I’ve never been the type to wait for the perfect moment or anyone’s approval to chase a goal. Instead, I’ve always leaned into the soul God gave me, fueled by faith and optimism. Those same values are what I now pour into my #Hausmates as a mentor. They’ve become the driving force behind both me and MOODHOUSE, constantly reminding us to lead with heart, purpose, and authenticity.
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
When I was sad or scared as a child, creativity was always my safe place. I wrote, I sang. Honestly, some would say I never “shut up.” But in those moments, I felt renewed and ready to push through anything, even when I was on my own.
Looking back, I realize those independent instincts and humble beginnings were shaping me for exactly where I am today as a mass communication professional. Creativity has always been my anchor, and it continues to guide how I show up in my work and in life.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
The ideas I rely on most that aren’t my own come from my #Hausmates. They are MOODHOUSE. Here, there’s no such thing as competition. We don’t believe in that. Instead, I encourage them to explore, to see the world differently, and to always tell great stories with integrity. That spirit of collaboration and creativity is what keeps #theHOUSE thriving.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m certain I’m living out a portion of what I was born to do, and God has a way of reminding me of that in the most clever ways. PR has truly changed my life, despite the cards I was personally dealt. What I love most about this work is the opportunity to connect with other like-minded individuals who share the same passion and purpose. It’s a constant reminder that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.
