We recently had the chance to connect with Mike Faricy and have shared our conversation below.
Mike, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I’m an independently published crime fiction author with 90+ books in the market. I’m up by 6-6:30. My first task is going through 20+ emails and posting ads online for my most recent book. After a brief breakfast I work on marketing and running ads for two to three hours and then begin working on my next book. Somewhere along the way I’ll grab lunch, then work until dinner time, and then work into the evening unless I’m meeting up with someone. This is what I do seven days a week, which makes me the most boring guy in town.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Mike Faricy. I write crime fiction books with a sense of humor. I have five different series, two of which have been completed but are available on Amazon and three series that I’m adding two to three books to annually. I’m always working on the next book.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was the class clown in grade school. I spent a good portion of my school day standing out in the hall watching the class through the window in the door. I was the kid the teachers didn’t want in their class.
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
I think what helped me the most was my parents not allowing me to give up. They would tell me to ‘Dust yourself off.” or “Then do it again and use what you’ve learned.” It really helped and they always supported me, which could not have been easy.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
I believe the basic truth is that success is a long game, a very long game. You don’t give up. You continually try new ideas, the industry changes daily and one has to adjust but you keep at it.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m doing what I was born to do, writing crime fiction with a sense of humor. I was the class clown as a youngster. I loved telling funny stories and jokes. I also loved reading. Now, I do both those things, every day. It’s how I make my living.
