Story & Lesson Highlights with Nadege Edman of Frederick,MD

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Nadege Edman. Check out our conversation below.

Nadege , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
This year i decided to start the garden that I’ve been dreaming about. I grew peppers, tomatoes, onions, mint, flowers, and strawberries. Some things i started from seed and some i got plants from my local nursery. It was so fun to see a seed grow into a plant and then produce fruit.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Nadege and i am the owner of Abode Candle co. We make luxury soy wax candles and candle accessories. Our goal is to create scents that can unlock memories of times and spaces that make our customers feel at home. Our scents are complex in that they are a blend of 3 or 4 fragrances.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
As cheesy as it sounds my husband often sees “me” before i can see the clear picture. He sees the me that i can’t see and challenges me to be that.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
In 2023, i was going to close my business. I was planning to finish the last craft show i had lined up and dissolve my business. The craft show was a 3 days in Howard County and was well known. It was my first time there so i didn’t know what to expect. There i met so many vendors and customers that encouraged me and loved my craft. I was inspired to start dreaming again. That show inspired 3 new scents that we now carry in our line of candles. After the show i decided to refocus and be more particular with what shows i attended.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
My lifelong project is to own acres of land where i can grow my own food, raise chickens, and grow flowers.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I was a great friend, compassionate leader, and trustworthy person.
