We recently had the chance to connect with Natasha “Chef Tash” Waller and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Natasha “Chef Tash”, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Being a MOM-for sure. I have a (currently) 19 month old daughter and she is the best little human in the world. Her laughs, her smiles, her spunky attitude, her hugs, her kisses, her peek-a-boos! They all bring me the most joy .
Sending a shout out to Na’Riah Sharron Rivers ! Mommy loves you 💖

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
I obtained my work ethic from my grandmother Susie Waller. Growing up she always woke up at 3am to get to the University of Maryland where she was a custodian. It was her job to get the
Classrooms ready for professors. When she got off work, she had time to herself before she walked to pick me up from elementary school. My grandmother suffered from several strokes but she never gave up -until she took her last breath in 2024.
As a chef, I work very hard.
Sometimes long hours just to make sure the job is complete. Tired or not, I still show up to perform because I learned that from my grandmother
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Natasha-you are beautiful and brave!
I had to go through elementary being bullied by other students and while it did help me to create confidence it also always was stuck in the back of my mind. When I later fell into a depression, those words haunted me. But we have grown to love ourself inside and out. We have survived things that were meant to destroy us and for that I am brave.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
My mothers because she has experience and wisdom
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Waiting for a reason to travel. I have been traveling by myself since a junior in high school. I got my passport in 2015 and studied abroad. I went on a cruise to the Caribbean for my birthday but I have never taken a leisure trip out the country just because. I want to stop waiting for a reason to travel and just travel
