Natasha Ragland shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Natasha, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Between intelligence, energy, and integrity, I guess my most important choice is energy. That leaves room for interpretation. I’m thinking of energy as someone’s energy field around them — referring to the gentleness they radiate (non-violence) — and the caring nature, whether they seem to be a joyous person — and you can tell what kind of thoughts they are thinking by their countenance — if they’ve been looking for the good or if they’re in a critical frame of mind. If a person practices Spirituality on a regular basis, they are cherishing the Divine in each being and they are aware of the power of their thoughts and the magic of the Divine Presence. If someone is filled with judgement, anger, and low vibrations of hate or violence, they are not at peace and it blocks creativity. Being in a state of open readiness allows the imagination to create outside the box in the realm of all possibilities.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Natasha Ragland, artist, musician, songwriter, music teacher. As I am coping with aging parents, I have become more of a caregiver, but I continue to keep my artistic goals and projects alive. I am the youngest of 12 grandchildren of a Grandma who lived to be 107, and I am comfortable with older people, and now am confronted by the accumulation of so much stuff in the sheds — with my parents being artists also, that I am working on clearing out slowly to keep my life functional. I have a new boyfriend who appeared in my world 2 weeks after everything came crashing down at once. My roughly 23-year relationship with my former boyfriend basically came to an end. I had several discouraging blows in my creative career, losing my position playing at the restaurant, and the gallery we are represented at seemed to be going in a new direction. Right after these devastating events, I met Edward Moreland, who came to church after his late wife passed away after 26 years of marriage, and he had been her care-giver for the last 4 years. It seemed like a Cosmic shift. As we have gotten acquainted and mingled our lives, I am starting to feel my creativity coming back.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think communication is the key to bonds between people. Stopping the communication causes emptiness that looks for someone else to fill it. Restoring communication is the best way to restore the bond. My family is really big on writing cards for holidays. I like to write limericks for family on special occasions because it’s my way of documenting the latest events in a few words. My dad has kept a diary his whole life, and following his lead, my sister and I both do the same. I guess journaling is a way for us to keep our minds emptied out, and to vent. It serves a lot of purposes besides giving me a touchstone to refer to whenever I need to know when something happened. My parents have always expressed their appreciation in writing. I like this tradition because it gives me something to read whenever I am feeling angry towards someone, if they wrote me a nice message, I can revisit those kind words and come back to harmony with that person. If someone offends me or hurts me, I address it in a calm, tactful way expressing the truth.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I guess you could call it suffering . . . as I had some physical challenges which caused me to withdraw from the public more than usual. Dental work & female problems, which are now resolved. I turned my attention to my art and music, and prayed a lot. All these adversities, I have sublimated into paintings and music that can uplift the spirit. When I am involved in creativity, I enter the zone. Success tends to cause you to repeat what worked, but suffering makes you re-examine and think about a possible new direction.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
If there is an obstacle in my path, if I encounter a difficult person or situation, I don’t necessarily attack them or force my way, I seek other pathways to my goal. Ultimately, there is a Karmic law at work. I don’t focus on dishing out punishments to people. I figure the Universe will give people their come-uppens. I am guided by the Truth into right action. I try to be still and listen for the Divine answer.
I am always doing my best to conserve resources and leave a light footprint on the earth.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If immortality were real, what would you build?
If immortality is real, I want to build a body of work in art and music that reflect my most idealistic dreams and profound thoughts and feelings. I want to lift people into a higher vibration where they can enter a space of sacred beauty and feel the love and the joy of their true nature.
