We’re looking forward to introducing you to Robbin Turner M.Ed.. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Robbin, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I firmly believe integrity is paramount. Honestly, it’s the foundation upon which everything else rests. It seems to me that our society is experiencing a moral decline. The actions of many individuals are troubling, and it’s become increasingly difficult to place trust in others.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Violet Botanical Skincare started right at home—with my family. My husband and son both struggled with dry, eczema-prone skin, and nothing seemed to help. I remember standing in the pharmacy aisle, reading the back of jar after jar, wondering why the only options were greasy, petroleum-based creams or steroid ointments. That just didn’t sit right with me. Their skin deserved better—something gentle, nourishing, and deeply supportive without harsh chemicals.
As a wife and mother, I couldn’t look at their discomfort and do nothing. But as a trained herbalist and botanical formulator, I knew I could do something.
That’s when the real journey began.
I went back to my roots—literally. I began crafting formulas using African ancestral plant wisdom—ingredients that have been used for generations to soothe, protect, and restore the skin. I studied how they worked together, not just on a chemical level, but in harmony. I wanted to create body care that felt soft and rich on the skin, that absorbed beautifully, and left your body feeling comforted and calm—not coated, not irritated.
We exist to meet the growing need for safe, non-steroidal solutions for dry, sensitive, and eczema-prone skin—offering relief without compromise.
We’re certified woman-owned, minority-owned, local small business, small business, and Made in California. We formulate in small batches using ethically sourced botanicals like Nilotica Shea, Mafura, and Baobab oils—renowned for their natural moisturizing and soothing properties.
Our mission goes beyond skincare. We champion sustainability, wellness, and economic equity by partnering with women in rural southern Africa and educating customers on the importance of everyday relief, skin resilience, and long-term comfort. Violet Botanical Skincare helps people care for their skin—and their stories—with dignity and trust.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my son most shaped how I see myself.
I take immense pride in my journey from being a stay-at-home mom for 17 years to becoming the owner of Violet Botanical Skincare. It was a leap of faith.
My greatest achievement is not just in building a business, but in inspiring my son. Witnessing his admiration for my dedication and hard work fills me with joy. His recognition of my efforts, his interest in my entrepreneurial journey, and his desire to follow in my footsteps make every challenge worthwhile.
When he shares his ambition to become an entrepreneur, I feel a sense of fulfillment beyond measure. It’s not just about being a business owner; it’s about setting an example and shaping the aspirations of the next generation. That connection with my son and the impact it has on his dreams is my proudest accomplishment, and it reaffirms that this journey is about more than just business—it’s about family and legacy.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Yes you can! Go out there confidently with your head held high and make some waves.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I used to think that if you follow all the rules, I will become a successful entrepreneur. I don’t hold that belief anymore. I feel that some rules are meant to keep us cogs in the wheel. I believe you should learn the rules so you know which ones to ignore/break while pursuing your passions.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I had 10 years left, I would stop working immediately and travel the world for my remaining 10 years.
