Story & Lesson Highlights with Robert Banghart

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Robert Banghart. Check out our conversation below.

Robert, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I have a morning ritual to start my day. I pray and then do my best to take myself back to what it was like the last week I was homeless and in my addiction. Then I think about where my life is today, and I’m consistently blown away with what recovery has done for me and so many others. Afterwards I text as many people as possible to connect and check in

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents, they were always a great example of hard work and dedication no matter what was going on. They provided a great life for me despite things they had gone through and lead with their example and still do

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The last day of my addiction and homelessness I was attacked by 3 men with an axe, a pipe and a knife. They killed me and left me for dead on the train tracks. Thankfully, someone saw it happen and called the emergency services, who were able to revive me. That moment was what it took for me to become willing to make a change in my life and without it I wouldn’t be here today

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
So many people, Jeff Iverson, John Waldron, Crystal Hirschi and Shannon Wittenberger come to mind. All great examples, mentors and friends who have all shown me over the years the leader I want to be. All very humble and dedicated to helping people authentically, Theirs no fan fair its just what do we need to do to help and then all action from there to make it happen. Their all doing what they can to effect real change in our city

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
With my family, I’m blessed to have a beautiful life that I get to share with them and vice versa.
