We recently had the chance to connect with Ruvarashe Pellum and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ruvarashe, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Honestly, my mornings revolve around my baby right now. As a first-time mom, I wake up when she does, and I usually spend the part of the first hour and a half nursing her and keeping her entertained. It’s a busy start to the day, but one I truly cherish. On the rare occasion that I’m up before her, I usually just find myself relaxing in bed while waiting for her to wake up.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Ruvarashe, the founder of The Scent Spot, a handcrafted scented goods brand that grew from a small passion project into something that truly feels like a piece of my heart. I’ve always been drawn to how powerful scent can be and how a single fragrance can take you back to a moment, a place, or a feeling you thought you’d forgotten. That connection between scent and emotion is what inspired me to start creating my own products.
When I first started The Scent Spot, it was just me in my mother’s kitchen experimenting with wax, oils, and ideas after long days at work. I wanted to make scents that felt personal, not just good-smelling but meaningful. Every product is designed to evoke a sense of comfort, calm, or nostalgia, like the feeling of coming home after a long day or curling up on a rainy afternoon.
All products are hand-poured with care, using clean, simple ingredients because I believe quality and intention matter just as much as fragrance. What makes The Scent Spot special is that it’s rooted in joy and connection. It’s about creating small moments of peace in people’s everyday lives.
Right now, I’m working on expanding my scent collections and bringing The Scent Spot to more people who value mindfulness and cozy living. Watching it grow from a hobby into a brand that brings others comfort has been such a beautiful journey, and I’m grateful to keep building it, one scent at a time.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My father did. He was a CPA who owned his own practice, and I spent much of my early life tagging along with him to work or being picked up from school just to head back to his office. He would even get up early every morning and often continue working late into the evening from his home office. Watching him balance client meetings, manage his practice, and stay involved in professional CPA organizations taught me a great deal about dedication and work ethic—and showed me just how hardworking he truly was. Looking back, I think that’s where my own entrepreneurial drive began, seeing firsthand the commitment, passion and independence that come with building something of your own.
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
Having the space to share my feelings and put them into words brought me comfort whenever I felt sadness or fear as a child.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
This might sound strange to some, but I truly believe mermaids and sirens are real no matter what others say. While I can’t personally prove it, there have been reports of skeletal remains washing ashore, and even my grandmother recalls seeing one herself.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
Aside from the products, I think my customers would definitely miss the fast shipping! I don’t play when it comes to getting orders out on time. I know exactly how it feels to be excited about a package and to keep refreshing the tracking updates, so I make sure mine ship out quickly.
