Story & Lesson Highlights with Salina Singleton of Camden

We recently had the chance to connect with Salina Singleton and have shared our conversation below.

Salina , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I’m stepping into this role because I know what it feels like to have a dream, lose it, and fight my way back to it. In 2017, I built a successful production company, but addiction forced me to set that dream down. I was carrying everything alone, and when it all fell apart, I became afraid to build again.
But I beat addiction. I rebuilt myself. And now I’m building something even stronger.
Today, I’m creating a Leaderful movement—a community where creativity is shared, supported, and nurtured. A place where people don’t have to silence their gifts under the pressure of work, family, or simply trying to get through life. I’ve seen how easily adults—some with years of untapped talent, others just discovering their voice—can lose sight of their creative spark. And I believe everyone deserves a space to explore who they are and who they can become.
Some of the people joining the Collective are seasoned dreamers who’ve had to climb their way back. Others are young comedians and actors stepping into their gifts for the very first time. The beauty is that this space holds room for all of it—whether you’re rebuilding, beginning, or somewhere in between.
Comedy has a way of opening people up, of revealing strengths they didn’t know they had. And South Jersey has never had a true hub where people could discover that. So I’m creating it—a home for creativity, leadership, and community.
And as for me: I know what it means to fall, to lose everything, and to fight my way back. I rose once for myself—now I’m rising to help others rise in their own way, on their own path, at their own pace. I’m walking into this chapter with strength, intention, and fearless determination.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Salina Singleton, and I’m a proud Camden native who has always been driven to build, create, and uplift. I founded the Camden Comedy Collective to give our community something we’ve needed for a long time: a home where creativity, connection, and laughter can thrive.
My path has been anything but traditional. I’ve worked with Fortune 500 companies and mom-and-pop businesses, built brands from scratch, and developed skills across digital marketing, web design, production, podcasting, improv, and advanced communication and sales. I’ve been entrepreneurial since childhood, and every chapter of my journey has prepared me for this moment.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful goes back to when I was seven years old. My little brother went to a daycare, and I would walk there after school and wait for my mom to pick us up. One day, I decided I wanted a job there. I practiced my pitch in my head over and over, then confidently asked the daycare’s owner to hire me. And she did. 5 dollars a week!
That moment changed me. It was the first time I realized I could create opportunities with my voice, my courage, and my willingness to step forward. I didn’t have the language for it then, but looking back, that was the moment I discovered my power, the ability to advocate for myself, communicate with intention, and shape my own path. It’s the same energy that fuels me today.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was a time I truly thought I might never be able to beat my addiction to alcohol. Alcoholism runs deep on both sides of my family, and we have lost loved ones on both sides to substance abuse. Facing that reality felt overwhelming at times, and I honestly wondered if I could overcome it.
But I did. And in doing so, I discovered a strength and resilience I didn’t know I had. That experience taught me that even when the odds feel stacked against you, change is possible, and your story isn’t over until you decide it’s over. It’s a lesson I carry with me into everything I build, lead, and create today.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I have been told that even though I come off serious, at my core I’m someone who just wants to laugh all day. I have a deeply goofy, playful side that people don’t always see at first glance. I have a huge heart, sometimes too big, which is why I can be protective of myself.

I have also been told that I am a loyal friend, the person you call when you need to brainstorm your next big idea, or when you need someone who will listen without judgment. I talk to everyone, treat people with care, and genuinely believe in seeing the best in people. Laughter, connection, and loyalty are what really matter to me.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I made a real difference by creating opportunities for those who might not have had them otherwise. That I saw the people others overlooked and helped them find their voice. I was fortunate to have mentors who believed in me, and I want to do the same for others, to create a space where people feel supported, empowered, and inspired to grow. Above all, I hope people say that I honored my creator by using my gifts to uplift others and help them step fully into their potential.
