We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sara Alepin. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Sara, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
That’s a great question, and it’s something I think about a lot. The biggest misconception about my business- and probably about business in general – is that networking has to be a soul-sucking, transactional chore. So many people view it as this high-stakes, anxiety-inducing event where you’re just trading business cards and rattling off your elevator pitch, hoping to get something out of someone.
But it doesn’t have to be that way! The truth is, the most valuable connections I’ve made have been the ones that started authentically. When you shift your mindset from “what can I get?” to “how can I genuinely connect with this person?” the entire experience changes. It stops being a performance and starts being a conversation. It’s about building real relationships, offering help without an agenda, and finding common ground beyond just professional titles.
When you approach networking from a place of authenticity, it feels good – not just for you, but for the other person, too! It builds trust, and that’s the foundation of any successful collaboration. And ironically, while it may feel counterintuitive, this authentic approach ultimately delivers significantly higher return on investment in the long run. It’s a game-changer!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I’ve always been a teacher at heart. As a kid, I even asked for a chalkboard so I could teach my best friend, who was a year younger, everything I was learning in school. That passion for education is a big reason why I’ve infused so much of it into District Bliss.
When I started District Bliss, I saw how much time people were wasting trying to piece together advice from all over the place, with very little to show for it. I knew we had to do something different. That’s why we built workshops and educational resources right into our membership – to save people from having to “figure it all out” on their own and get them the actionable help they need to succeed!
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The biggest wound of my life came at the height of my teaching career. I was attacked by a student, which caused permanent nerve damage in my leg and forced me to retire at 29. It was a devastating loss, but I refused to let it defeat me. Instead of sitting around and giving up, I launched District Bliss.
I took that experience of being knocked down and used it to build a community founded on support and collaboration. My healing came from creating a space where people could uplift each other, proving that even after a great setback, you can build something stronger than you ever had before.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. I’ve always felt that what you see is what you get with me. I’m not really capable of pretending to be something I’m not, and honestly, I have zero interest in trying. It’s too much work! I’d rather be myself and connect with people authentically.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m scuba diving. I actually grew up with a lot of fear around water, so becoming an advanced open water diver has been a huge personal journey for me. When you’re underwater, it’s like you’ve been transported to another planet; it’s a completely different world! You’re fully present, disconnected from everything on the surface, and that silence is just so profoundly peaceful.
