Story & Lesson Highlights with Sarah Lauch of Arlington Heights IL (Chicagoland)

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sarah Lauch. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Who are you learning from right now?
The kind community that is embracing us during tough times. They are magical.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am the Executive Director at Live Like Roo Foundation, a non-profit that assists people with a cancer diagnosis in their pet. There are not many organizations that do the work that we do and we are honored to help people throughout the world! Seeing a need in our community, we recently launched an online pet pantry that has been really successful. I have learned that you cannot be afraid to go for it. It is never easy, but it is always worth it when you can change lives.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I have never felt powerful. I have BIG time imposter syndrome. Why was I put in this spot to help others? I am SO lucky that donors trust us to do right with their donations. No one is more powerful than the cause they are helping and the people that make it roll on day after day – donors, staff, board. They are powerful. I am just the engineer making it go.

Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
A 9-5 work day. That has not happened in a long time, but running this Foundation and a pet care business is 24/7. I never have a day off. There are no sick days or vacation days. I have to make time for myself. It is really hard because I want to help as many people as I can every day. I have a 0 email policy. I hate having emails sitting unread, so I have to clear them before I can relax. It is crazy, I know.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Oh, absolutely. I think anyone that knows me intimately will agree. I am VERY transparent. I wear my heart on my sleeve. I have cried on live videos. I have been angry on video. It is all there. There is nothing to hide behind. Why would anyone trust me if I was not authentic?

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I would do anything for anyone that needed help. I have given so much of my money, time and heart to causes and to people that needed help. I am not rich. I am barely middle class. I am making less than I made when I moved to Chicago in 2004 because my heart is in helping people. Leaving corporate America was the absolute best thing I ever did. Do not get me wrong, I loved my job in television and the people are forever friends, but all the ancillary bs surrounding it was not ok. Looking back I see how toxic it is and I really hope people make the leap to get out and LIVE how they want. I changed my life for the better and to make a bigger impact helping others.
