Story & Lesson Highlights with Simiao Wang of New York.

Simiao Wang shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Simiao, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: When was the last time you felt true joy?
I visited Death Valley with my family a few months ago. We planned to watch the sunrise at the sand dunes. It was windy and cloudy that morning, but we still went. When the sun finally broke through the clouds and lit up the rolling dunes, the view was absolutely breathtaking—no human imagination could ever create something so beautiful. I felt so lucky to witness that moment with my family.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an illustrator. I create artwork for my clients, and one of the things that makes my work unique is the freedom it gives me. I can manage my own schedule and work when I feel most inspired. (as long as it’s done before deadline). I love being able to use my imagination and sense of aesthetics to bring a beautiful image to life.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
When I was little, I had a cat that picked up from park. It was more than ten years ago. I didn’t know anything about how to raising a cat. We had a heating radiator at home, and the cat’s leg got stuck between the radiator bars. I was the only one at home, and I heard the cat yelling, I ran over to help. The cat scratched my hand several times, so I wrapped my hand in a towel and pulled it out. I felt I had power to rescue it at the moment.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I feel that failure has taught me that most people aren’t geniuses, and it’s completely normal for the first few attempts to fall short. I need to keep trying, think more, and keep going. In the end, maybe not huge success, but I will gain something from the effort.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
Probably not rely on, but feel stunning.
“I came across a question online: If human civilization went back to the Stone Age and your field could leave behind only one sentence, what would it be?

Someone answered, Put green stones into fire or enough boiling water can make the stone move.
Then another person answered, ‘There is no God.’

It made me think, yes, people need to rely more on their own strength.

But then I suddenly realized that if no one believed in gods, the entire art history would be completely different.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Not sure what I will stop doing, but I will start my travel plan, to see the beauty of the earth, eat delicious food.
