Story & Lesson Highlights with Simone Hunter of DMV

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Simone Hunter . Check out our conversation below.

Simone , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
No two days ever look exactly the same for me, but the common thread is creativity, strategy, and making sure I pour into myself along the way. Most mornings start with a matcha or coffee in hand and a quick check-in on client projects, anything from mapping out a social media rollout for a healthcare leader to reviewing creative concepts for a product launch. By mid-morning, I’m in full work mode, bouncing between brand strategy sessions, client calls, and moving projects forward for On Brand Creative.

Afternoons are when I settle in for my deeper creative work like designing, planning, and bringing the bigger ideas to life. This is usually my most focused time of day, where I can get lost in a project and look up to realize hours have passed.

I wrap up by 6pm most days, unless it’s one of those rare, hectic weeks—because I don’t play about my wellness anymore. Whether it’s a Peloton ride, a Pilates session, or a HIIT class, I make sure I end the day moving my body and recharging my mind. It’s my way of closing the loop before I do it all again tomorrow.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Simone Hunter, founder of On Brand Creative Agency—a creative brand agency based in the DMV that helps entrepreneurs and organizations bring their visions to life through intentional storytelling, standout visuals, and strategic marketing. Over the past five years, I’ve worked across industries with healthcare leaders, real estate agents, coaches, lifestyle creatives, and more, helping them show up confidently and consistently in their markets.

What makes my work unique is the balance I bring between strategy and creativity. I don’t just make things look good—I make sure they work. Every design, campaign, and brand experience is backed by a clear plan to help my clients connect with their audience and grow their business.

Right now, I’m focused on expanding the agency’s footprint through bigger collaborations, more speaking engagements, and projects that merge creativity, community, and culture.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that’s served its purpose is the version of me that tried to be everything to everybody—whether that was for family, friends, or clients. I used to stretch myself thin trying to show up for everyone in every way, but I’ve learned that doesn’t serve me or the people I care about in the long run. Now, I’m much more intentional with my time and energy. I choose carefully who I share it with and how, making sure it’s aligned, reciprocal, and leaves room for me to show up as my best self in all areas of my life.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self: You’re more than capable, and you’ve always known that—but you don’t have to do it all alone. Use your resources, lean on your network, and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there or ask for help when you need it. You don’t lose anything by asking—you actually gain clarity, support, and momentum.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes—what you see is what you get. I don’t really sugar coat my personality. Of course, you’ll get a more polished version of me because, at the end of the day, I’m a businesswoman. But I’m all about balance, baby—business and the fun. You’ll always catch a cute cocktail, an adventure, or a little spiciness in my content.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What light inside you have you been dimming?
I wouldn’t say I’ve been dimming it, but I have been pressing pause on my urge to move to another city. I want to make sure I have the resources in place to fully support my lifestyle before making that leap. I’m at a point where I value stability and alignment just as much as adventure, but I also know there’s a part of me that’s ready to expand my wings beyond the DMV.
