We recently had the chance to connect with Sue Rudolph and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Sue, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, I’ve been finding immense joy in trail running, a passion I’ve nurtured for many years. There’s something truly liberating about hitting the trails—a perfect way to unwind, disconnect from the everyday hustle, and reconnect with nature. It’s not just exercise; it’s my sanctuary for stress relief and mental clarity.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I design custom itineraries for individuals and groups who want to truly experience a destination—not just see it. My journeys go beyond the typical tourist path, allowing travellers to connect deeply with nature, immerse themselves in local cultures, and engage meaningfully with the people who call these places home. While I craft trips worldwide, my specialties lie in Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Being a passionate long-distance runner and cyclist, I’ve carved a unique niche offering immersive running, cycling, and hiking tours that combine active adventure with cultural discovery.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
One of the most powerful moments I’ve ever experienced was completing the Western States 100-mile Endurance Run from Squaw Valley to Auburn, California, back in 1992. It had been a dream of mine since I first learned about the race in 1982. Crossing that finish line filled me with an overwhelming sense of strength and accomplishment—I truly felt like I could take on anything. That feeling of perseverance and determination continues to inspire me today, especially in my business when facing challenges.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
After 9/11, I faced significant financial struggles and was offered a job at Boeing—the very company I had left to start my own business. Although I desperately needed the stability the job promised, the idea of returning to the corporate world after experiencing the freedom of entrepreneurship filled me with anxiety. It was a difficult crossroads, but thankfully, I trusted my instincts and turned down the offer. That decision reaffirmed my commitment to my own path and ultimately shaped the success I enjoy today.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would undoubtedly say that my family, my cherished circle of friends, and my beloved pets are what truly matter most to me. These are the connections that bring the greatest joy and richness to my life.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I were to retire tomorrow, my customers would likely miss having someone who truly listens to their unique needs and crafts tailor-made trips that go beyond expectations. They value the personalized care and attention I bring to every itinerary, ensuring each journey feels seamless, meaningful, and perfectly suited to their dreams.
