We recently had the chance to connect with Susy Ovalle and have shared our conversation below.
Susy, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
For me, integrity is the most important. Intelligence and energy are both valuable, but without integrity, they can be misdirected or even harmful. Integrity ensures that the way I use my skills and drive aligns with strong values and a sense of responsibility. With that foundation, intelligence helps me make sound decisions and adapt to challenges, and energy allows me to take action and follow through. Integrity is what keeps everything grounded and meaningful.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Susy, and I’m a photographer who specializes in capturing weddings, families, and couples. My work is all about preserving genuine connections and emotions in a timeless way. What makes my brand unique is the heart behind it—I don’t just take photos, I aim to tell stories that feel authentic and meaningful for each client. Photography became my passion because I value memories that can be cherished for generations, and that drives everything I do. Right now, I’m focused on expanding my wedding photography now in Texas while continuing to create experiences where clients feel comfortable, seen, and celebrated. My photography business is a means to support my ultimate purpose which is to participate more in the volunteer work I do as a Jehovah’s Witness.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was when I traveled to Spain alone at just 14 years old to visit my eldest sister who had moved there. It was such a big step at that age—being on my own, navigating everything, and stepping into a completely different culture. Looking back, that experience gave me a real sense of independence and confidence. It showed me that I was capable of handling challenges and stepping outside of my comfort zone, and that feeling has stayed with me ever since.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to trust the process and not be so hard on herself. Every step, even the ones that felt uncertain or difficult, was leading her somewhere meaningful. I’d remind her that she’s stronger than she realizes and that things have a way of working out beautifully when you stay true to who you are.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that what really matters to me is my relationship with God—Jehovah, our Heavenly Father. It’s the foundation of my life and guides the way I approach everything, from personal decisions to how I treat others. That relationship keeps me grounded, gives me strength, and shapes the values I try to live by every day.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Those who know me would say I’m doing what I was born to do. I’ve always been willing to take a risk here & there, and pursuing my passion for photography has allowed me to follow my own path rather than just what I was told to do. Taking those leaps has been challenging at times, but it’s also incredibly rewarding, and it’s made me feel truly aligned with my purpose.
