Story & Lesson Highlights with Todd Roberts

Todd Roberts shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Todd, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Well I wake up at 6am, try to remember who and where I am. Once I figured that out, I pull myself out of bed, take a shower, brush my teeth and say good morning to my cat. I give her her breakfast, I grab mine then I drive to my job which should only take 25 minutes, but instead takes an hour. Thanks Knoxville traffic! Once I get there, I clock in, pull up my emails, and find out how we’re going to change the world today.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Well I’m Todd Roberts, or as I’m known in our shows Hot Toddy, I run a productions company called Super Fuzz Productions which serves to inform, entertain and make your day a little better! We have 5 shows, the first 4 are on YouTube. A movie review show called “Get Reel”, a game review show called “Played Out”, a series that tests my knowledge on trivia called “Stump Hot Toddy” and a reaction show where we take a look at some of the dumbest things the world has to offer called “Just The Dumbest…. The the crown jewel is the show that started it all off, our podcast called The Smokin’ Hot Toddcast. I always describe it as what would happen if Saturday Night Live was a podcast? We do a mixture of sketch comedy, interviews and the usual conversational topics. Currently we are working on our Halloween episodes. We just finished specials for The Toddcast, Just The Dumbest… and Get Reel. I’m currently working on one more for Get Reel, as we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 1925 version of The Phantom of the Opera.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Well that’s the million dollar question. In addition to doing the podcast and YouTube, I also work in social work. I love giving back to the community and keeping the local spirit alive. I think that is my true calling in life, but broadcasting plays a major role as well. I started a career in radio and spent 14 years on the East Tennessee radio scene, but in the end working for the community and part timing it in broadcasting was my true calling

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Too many to count actually, there are still times where I wonder if I’m on the right path and waisting my time. But, at the end of the day, you see the comments, you see the views/plays and you hear the feedback and you know you’re providing happiness for someone out there, even if it’s just one person and it’s only a little bit, I can trust that I’m doing something for someone.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
I would say so, I’m a little quieter in my personal life, but once you get to know me you know I’m just as big a goof as I am on screen and in the podcast.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I brought some form of brightness into their life, whether it was something I did or just being there.
