Wendy Costa shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Wendy, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
First off- I wake up early and imagine my day. I’m a big believer in journaling and manifesting, so my top priorities are: I envision great health, and great prosperity. I believe in programming my day with my thoughts. I like to take time to look at what I have, and to feel my body and my blessings. I then go on to hot water with lemon and a light breakfast (I’m trying a Japanese diet currently), then I go onto my ‘to do’ list. I don’t think I’ve ever missed a day of my to do list in nearly 40 years of business.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an artist that studied Fine Art and then transitioned to selling my art on products in the gift and fashion market nearly 40 years ago. I hand paint all of my designs and all of my home good are produced in our New York studio. Recently, I started a fashion line with my hand painted fabrics. I’ve sold wholesale through all the major markets and with showrooms and reps, retail in handmade shows across the US, and by licensing my designs to poster companies, needlepoint kit companies, and greeting cards.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
As a kid I was very involved with my imagination and my spiritual center. I think my closeness to quiet meditation through art, my love of reading, and my love of animals, all lead to an early sense of knowing myself, Even though adults tried to steer me away from art, and my dreams, I stood strong at a very young age by leaning on my strong intuition.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Keep going, everything you believe in, is true, honest and just. You have super strong intuition, stay with it. Your art is powerful; you are highly creative and unique.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I think so. I try to put authenticity first in my art and life.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope I am remembered for my art, my resilience, creativity, and cheerleading for other creatives and small businesses.
