Story & Lesson Highlights with Windell Dobson

Windell Dobson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Windell , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Yes. I am honored to share that the Harding Art Show Committee has automatically invited me to participate in the 2026 Harding Art Show. This recognition comes as a result of my art sales success at the 2025 exhibition, and I am truly grateful for the continued support from collectors and art enthusiasts.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Windell Dobson, and I am the artist behind Dobwin Art, a brand dedicated to creating large-scale, abstract works that merge emotion, movement, and texture. My pieces often incorporate bold acrylic layers, fabric, and sculptural elements, allowing each canvas to carry both visual depth and tactile presence.

What makes Dobwin Art unique is the way it bridges fine art with luxury living. Many of my works are designed with scale and impact in mind, making them a natural fit for high-end interiors, curated spaces, and design-forward homes. Recently, my art has been showcased at prestigious events such as the Harding Art Show and the upcoming Nashville Parade of Homes, where top designers integrate my work into visionary spaces.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The study of art and the act of creating it have profoundly shaped how I see the world. Each brushstroke, texture, and layered surface becomes both a reflection and a revelation, allowing me to engage with life in ways words often cannot.

My guiding belief is expressed in my quote: “Art is life in its purest form.” This is more than a statement—it is a living testament to my practice. Through abstraction, scale, and material exploration, I strive to capture the essence of human experience: silence and movement, solitude and connection, fragility and strength.

For me, art is not only about creating an object; it is about transforming spaces and evoking emotions that linger. It is life distilled onto canvas, reminding us of what is timeless, essential, and deeply human.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
The things society once deemed as poor were, in truth, filled with richness.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Not realizing that you only exist in society—and that society does not exist in you—can blind you to your true self. Who you are, and who you want to become, depends entirely on how you see yourself, not on the way society chooses to define you.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
How I am using art to tell a story, one that goes beyond words, reaching into emotion, memory, and lived experience. Through bold abstraction, layered textures, and scale, each piece becomes a narrative in itself, carrying fragments of silence, resilience, and beauty. My work is not just about creating images, but about giving voice to the unseen and shaping stories that connect deeply with those who encounter them.
