We recently had the chance to connect with Yeny Ferreras Raposo and have shared our conversation below.
Yeny, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
One thing that brings me joy outside of work lately is spending time with my five-year-old son. It is good to be able to spend quality time with family, outside of taking photos or designing for someone. One of our favorite things to do is watch movies or do puzzles.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Yeny Ferreras, a Dominican-born multidisciplinary artist, educator, and digital marketer. I have a strong foundation in graphic design and photography. I had dedicated myself to building creative communities through the power of visual storytelling, SEO strategy, and content creation.
Recently, I expanded my horizons by obtaining a certification in Digital Marketing through COOP, a nonprofit organization that helps overcome underemployment for first-gen graduated professionals to break into the workforce. This experience has helped me develop essential skills that I am eager to further within my brand.
Currently, I am channeling this passion into a new venture called Her Creative Corner. This exciting platform is designed to share the empowering stories of women of faith who embrace both their spirituality and creativity. Through Her Creative Corner, I aim to inspire and connect women, fostering a community where their unique experiences can shine.
Through this journey, I would like to continue to innovate and uplift, making my mark in the world of art and digital marketing.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
A relationship that really shaped more of how I see myself is the bond I have created with my firstborn. I realized that I was not just a mom but also a role model for someone who looks up to me every day. I always notice how my son observes the way I interact with others, whether I am kind or rude. Although I have always aimed to set a good example, I am now working even harder to be the best role model I can be for him, guiding him to grow with respectful behavior and a positive mindset in the bond we have built through our mother-son relationship.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
A time I almost gave up was during my last year of college in 2018, since English has never been my first language. I had always struggled with my writing, which cost me my last semester in college. Without this Art history course and 10-page research paper, I was not going to be able to walk at graduation. Despite going through discrimination, it was challenging having to face this professor daily because I could not write formal English, although I was able to face this challenge and graduate with honors in my Bachelor’s Degree.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie my industry tells itself is that without corporate experience you can never reach to your higher potential. I believe this is the biggest lie in the industry because through my entrepreneurship, I have been able to work with amazing people as a photographer assistant from the industry, such as Katie Levine, Charles Chessler, and companies like Mighty Patch in their beginnings. In reality, you are the one who must create the space and connect with people in the industry through networking events. I have been able to meet extraordinary people who have given me opportunities to succeed through it without being corporate savvy.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
One thing people may misunderstand about my legacy is that everything I am building—my expertise, artistry, and body of work—is ultimately meant to be passed on to my children. Part of my purpose is to work diligently to build partnerships, nurture long-lasting client relationships, and create a foundation of creativity, discipline, and passion that my offspring can inherit.
