For John Petrocelli, launching the Beach Football League livestream wasn’t just about broadcasting a game—it was about redefining how sports are experienced. By combining cinematic production, real-time interactivity, and digital-first distribution, his team is helping emerging leagues bypass traditional gatekeepers and connect directly with global audiences. As livestreaming evolves into a participatory, shoppable, and community-driven experience, John is at the forefront of a shift where fans don’t just watch the game—they become part of it.
John, you recently helped launch the Beach Football League (BFL) season through a first-of-its-kind professional livestream. What made this project such a groundbreaking moment for your team?
What made the BFL launch so special was our ability to give a high-intensity, emerging sport the “Big Game” treatment on a digital-first budget. We provided a turnkey production that didn’t just point a camera at the sand; we deployed HD multi-camera sideline coverage and dynamic drone cinematography to capture the unique tactical spread of pro sand football against the Santa Monica coastline.
For us, it was a validation of best-practice livestreaming. We proved that we could empower a partner to achieve elite broadcast standards—low latency, cinematic precision, and high reliability—without the massive overhead of a traditional network. Bringing the “BFL vs. A7FL All-Stars” matchup to a global audience in real-time was the perfect showcase for bridging the gap between niche sports and premium global entertainment.
The shift toward fully digital sports experiences is accelerating. How is your approach helping leagues like BFL build audiences without relying on traditional broadcast networks?
We are helping leagues like the BFL move from being “content creators” to becoming their own “media hubs.” Traditional networks have long been the gatekeepers of sports, but our “Tune In” strategy drives distribution directly to where the fans already live.
In this case, we syndicated the livestream to high-traffic web properties where passive “scrollers” discovered the game and became engaged viewers. To ensure quality, we utilize a True View standard, meaning:
● The video must be 100% in view.
● The viewer must watch for at least 5 seconds.
This is a monumental shift from traditional metrics where a “view” is counted at 1 second. By targeting the right audience at the right moment, we opened the BFL to a six-figure audience on day one—all without the friction of a cable subscription.
Livestreaming opens up new possibilities for fan engagement. What strategies are you using to create a strong, interactive community around these events?
Our mission is simple: transform viewers into participants. Passive viewing is a thing of the past. We use participatory tools like real-time polling, graphic overlays driven by fan comments, and interactive tickers to make the audience part of the broadcast.
Where most brands struggle to capture even a few seconds of attention, our best-practice livestreams are unlocking 10, 15, and even 20+ minutes of watch time. When you transform a viewer into a participant, two things happen:
1. They are much more likely to invite friends to join the stream.
2. They become “sticky” fans who return for future events.
For independent sports creators, visibility and distribution can be major challenges. How are you helping them scale and reach a global audience?
Visibility shouldn’t be a hurdle for great content. We help independent creators by managing the entire technical architecture and digital value chain under one roof. Because Bulldog DM is platform-agnostic, we meet the fans wherever they are—be it YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, LinkedIn, Instagram, or TikTok.
We provide the “connective tissue” between athletic performance and the global viewer. Whether it’s a bespoke white-label microsite or a social simulcast, we ensure that an independent league founded by a visionary like Tully Banta-Cain can reach a fan in Europe just as easily as a fan in Santa Monica.
“I’ve spent my career in the NFL under some of the greatest organizations in sports history, so when I launched the BFL, I knew we couldn’t settle for a ‘standard’ digital stream. I wanted our fans to feel the salt air and the intensity of every hit as if they were standing right there on the Santa Monica sand.
Partnering with Bulldog DM was the game-changer we needed. They didn’t just broadcast our game; they captured the soul of this new sport. Their ability to blend cinematic drone coverage with elite, low-latency streaming allowed us to scale from a local beach event to a global professional property overnight. In the ‘Patriots way,’ we focus on doing your job at the highest level—and Bulldog DM is doing exactly that for the future of sports media” – Beach Football League Founder, Tully Banta-Cain.
As digital platforms continue to reshape the sports industry, what do you see as the future of sports broadcasting and fan experience?
The future is shoppable, social, and participatory. We are seeing a “collapsing of the funnel” where the line between watching and buying disappears.
Last year, we became a TikTok Shop agency partner because ecommerce livestreaming is exploding. The numbers speak for themselves:
● 10x Conversion: Livestream commerce typically fetches a 30% conversion rate (10x higher than standard ecommerce).
● Lower Returns: We see a 40% reduction in returns because the interactive nature of the stream builds better product confidence.
● Massive Scale: TikTok Shop is projected to hit $24B in the US this year—surpassing the ecommerce businesses of Target and Best Buy.
The future is also live, real time, authentic and engaging experiences.
The BFL is the perfect canvas for this future. Between the fast-paced full-tackle action, the music performances, and the stunning cinematic drone coverage, it’s a high-value content experience and the viewer is practically on the sand with the players and also enjoying eagle eye coverage from multiple angles from all over the beach
As platforms like Netflix lean further into live events, we are thrilled to be the engine behind these transformative experiences.
