Sydnee Harris of Hendersonville, TN on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sydnee Harris. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Sydnee, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
My clients over the years have become family and have supported me in all different ways. Having them sit in my chair creates an atmosphere for us to talk about everything, no matter what it is. As a young adult, my clients have given me so much advice and knowledge about the world. Hearing their stories about how they became successful, or things they wished they didn’t do has transformed the way I proceed with my business, but my social life as well.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, guys, my name is Sydnee Harris, my nickname is Syd or Squid, and I am a hairstylist at a shop called Artifact Collective in Hendersonville, TN. I have been in the hair industry for almost 3 years, and it has been a dream come true! I love to do all things blondes, color, vivids, and extensions! I dedicate everything to make each client who sits in my chair feel heard, supported, and to give them confidence. I am currently continuing to grow my craft through education, new techniques, creativity, and genuine connection. I would love to have some new smiles in my chair!

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
This question is a super-easy one for me to answer, and I am sure a lot of people can relate. As a child, I had super low self-esteem and confidence issues. I never thought I was wise or good enough to accomplish the dreams I had set forth. Many dreams and ideas for myself I squashed because I thought they would never be possible. Here I am, creating my own business and getting to spread positivity to other people. I get to make a difference in others’ lives, and it has truly touched my inner child. I have become the person I always wanted to be, and I couldn’t be prouder of myself.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I am a firm believer that hard times and sometimes misery teach you the absolute most. Suffering taught me humility, patience, and what it means to get back up after failure. I learned who I was through self-reflection and without any wins. Overall, it taught me how strong I am and that I can do anything I put my heart into.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Social media has led newer stylists in the hair industry to believe that building a clientele will come fast and easy; however, this is not the case for everyone. Most of the time, it takes a while to build a strong clientele and business. It takes immense patience and dedication to give yourself the dream you have always wanted.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Everything I do in my life is because I want to do it to prove to myself. Even if the achievement is small, if it makes me feel great and confident, I did the right thing.
